Whereabouts are you. london? Charity shops such as St.Lukes have furniture stores. There is also a website WWW.Gumtree.co.uk that you can pick up cheap stuff. |

Look up the address of your local Salvation Army....you can get good, but a little old-fashioned furniture from them and for a small charge they will deliver. It will set you up in your starter home and you can modernise a little at a time. Happy hunting. |

I pressed the 'answer' button to suggest Freecycle but see you have already tried that.
Please try it regularly. My son-in-law gave lots of stuff away when he was re-doing the childrens' bedrooms. The items were snapped up within a few minutes, so you really have to work at it.
I'm sorry, I don't know any other sites like that but I'm sure the next person on here will do! |

Go to the Yahoo.website and click on Bradford
Free cycle. Just about anything you need is on there
or it will give you the site of your local freecycle site |

I work with homeless people helping them to set up their tenancies. I always use British Heart Foundation shops for furniture etc, they have excellent system of recycling donated furniture and will deliver. Check the phone book for your area. |

freecycle is a national scheme. There are laods of local ones around, and you can get pretty much anything from it. |

Our local town has a recycling project for people on benefits/low incomes and sells cheaply to others, they are nationwide so phone around. Also put an advert in a local shop stating your needs and situation, people are often glad to get rid of stuff iff you collect it. |

You already mentioned Freecycle, but that would be my first choice too. Check to see if your area has more than one chapter, as different people might post on or look at more than one of them. Craigslist is another possibility. In my area we also have a few free/cheap publications, with a "free stuff" section. |

Craigslist was mentioned - and the link is www.craigslist.com . They have people who offer things for sale or free.
You could also check local thrift stores, classifieds in the newspaper and shop the yard sales.
Check bulletin boards at churches/temples, laundromats & grocery stores. Often people selling items will list them there.
Freecycle is indeed a great asset but unfortunately bigger items are needed/wanted far more often then offered.
Also - try the dollar stores and close out stores. We got 4 dishes (plastic mind you but excellent starters!) for $1, and flatware was $1 for each setting. You can get your shower curtains and tablecloths and whatnot there too!
Closeout stores like Big Lots always have great things if you live near a good store. We got almost all of our kitchen minor appliances there (blender, sandwich maker, coffee pot) for under $10 each.
Also watch for families that are moving out of the area. Many times they'll be willing to get rid of furniture and larger items for a real steal so they don't have to drag it along. |

You could try the St. Vincent de Paul, from the local Catholic church. That's what I did when I moved house once. I got a whole bunch of free furniture. This was when I lived in Scotland, I don't know if it's available anywhere else in the UK. You don't have to go to church to qualify, just give them a call. Failing that you could try the Salvation Army. Good luck x :) |
