Landlord entering apartment without notification...?
My landlord has decided to sell the condo we are currently renting from her.
Is it true that she MUST give us 24-hours notice before her, any realtors, or any prospective buyers can LEGALLY enter the condo?
i mean, obviously, besides if we abandon the place or if there's an emergency.
The condo is currently on the market for sale.
We have a "Lease termination" letter in our possession, but it doesn't say ANYWHERE on that letter that ANYONE can just come in without our notice...

please help!!!!!!!
thank you.

I would think that it would vary by location. However, it does not seem like she can just do that.

What you might consider is letting her know that it would probably be best if she were to give notice, just so she and her prospective buyers wouldn't walk in on anything that they'd rather not see. And that you wouldn't mind straighting up a little for her. Try to make it a win-win situation w/o getting nasty.

The laws very in every state, but for the majority of them Landlord and or Realtors are not allowed to enter the property without 24 hr notice--unless there is an emergency. Def. talk to a real estate lawyer, your tenant rights to privacy maybe in jeopardy.

To me I think it is wrong, if you are paying for rent, to live there, there is a privacey act, if not well there should be, no matter what time they give you they should respect your privacy, and call or send a notice, either way it's WRONG.

Most states require 24 hours notice. You can go online and look up the tenant/landlord laws for your state. I own apartments, and always give 24 hours notification prior to entering. Going beyond the law can get the property owner in trouble as well. You pay the rent, you own it for the month.

Katetrinity
They cannot enter your condo without a 24 hour notice. That is a law. You rent that air space and until you vacate, it is yours. If there is an emergency regarding fire or flood, that is a different story.

They can call you and ask your permission to enter, but you do not have to allow it.

It's the landlord's property & unfortunately he can come in any time he wants.

first if she is trying to sell the condo she is going to braking your lease. and you can take her to court
Second you might want to check you lease and the laws in your state. in some the can go in at any time that they want even if it is stated in the lease other wise.

islandgrl
NO the landlord cannot enter any time he/she wants unless it specifically states it in the lease agreement. usually the landlord can enter without notification on an emergency basis only or enter when you give permission. you can take it to court if it's worth it or tell your landlord to not enter unless you give permission. yes, they have to give you ample time notice to enter. i'm not certain if it's 24 hours but i strongly believe it is. i work for a law firm, so i have some knowledge of landlord-tenant disputes.
