S H | Landlord from hell. Help needed? |
My landlord wrote me a nasty letter because my rent was late. I already spoke to her last month and told her that the rent was going to be late and that I will pay late fees for it being late. This is the nasty note "I need the rent this week as it's the middle of the month. My morgage and house Ins. is due. I can't keep doing this it's getting to me, since this bullshit started I have been to the Dr. and hospital for a month. Dont forget the rent is now $45 extra for late charge. My bills dont wait cause your late. signed the landlord. P.S. Your car payment is being paid and other bills rent should also be included in 1st things to pay. I want the rent by 1pm Oct 17th." Can you talk to your tenents like that? |

Of course she can. You are a flake. She is trying to tell you how the world works, you do not pay rent whenever you decide it might be convenient for you. It is due when it is due. |

While crudely written, your landlord got the point across. There are no laws preventing letters from being straight to the point and less than professional.
I think you understand what she is after, and I recommend that you cough up your rents quickly if you desire to continue living where you are. Please understand that telling your landlord that your rents will be late doesn't cut it unless she agrees. You ARE expected to make your payments on time. |

Pay your rent and you won't have a problem. Don't make your problems the landlords problem. What would your response be if you were the landlord? |

Yes, you signed the contract to rent the property. You must keep up on your obligations.

A little on the rude side, but legal. She is right, she can't meet her expenses if you don't pay on time. Your problems are not hers. She's right about paying rent first to. I was taught by my father that the first thing you have to do is pay for a place to live. |

She sounds like she's under a lot of pressure. but her problems are not yours. Pay your rent, try not to tick her off and don't expect her to be professional about any of it. |

When you signed the lease, you promised to pay rent on time. Given the fact that she states "she can't keep doing this", you've been late before and it's become a habit. It's your responsibility to pay rent. She is relying on the money to pay her bills.
She evidently has tried to be civil and this has pushed her over the edge. Yes, she has given you a lesson in life. Nothing is free, and she's not responsible for you not being responsible. And she is right; she is not the landlord from hell. She's relying on your payments being in on time to make hers. You're making her life hell. Not the other way around.
Either pay or move, but without good credit, life sucks. I do everything in my power to pay my rent. It's where I live and I don't need drama. |

Of course she can. Landlords are under no special requirement to be nice to their tenants...especially ones that don't pay on time. |

Well when you dont pay your rent on time, that can put the landlord back in their bills. |

Your landlord is nice enough to give you a letter, I would have already served a 3 days eviction notice regardless if the tenant has notified me in advance that the rent will be late. |

Sounds like you are not only living in the place free for the last two weeks (unless Last month's rent was paid with security) she is giving you a free education as well ! She doesn't have to talk you that way, she can send you a note, An "x-day pay or quit " note, and in some places in as little as 2 weeks you will no longer have to worry about the "Landlord from hell" |

You rent from a private landlord, she's right, she relies on your money inorder to pay the mortgage, without it she will lose the house so yes, she can talk to you that way. Being that the letter was that nasty it sounds like this is not the first time you've been late with the rent, I would get nasty with you if you did this every month to me in fact I would not be renewing your lease at the end of the term. If you signed a lease agreeing that rent is due on the 1st of the month then you need to pay rent by the first of the month, being that it's now the 17th and you haven't paid is totally unacceptable. |

Unfortunately he/she can. However, read your lease agreement is it in the agreement that there are late fees if your late? Because if not, your not obligated to do anything outside of that lease. |
