Read your lease and if it states he can come in without notice you need to renegotiate or find a new place. I would call the bar association and talk to an attorney about this...our state has a free hotline for questions like this !
If he comes in illegally then you file charges....I wouldn't shoot him unless he was physically attacking you ....but call 911 and report it all the time even if your lease states he can come in without notice.
If your lease states he needs to give a 24 hour notice tell him you want it in writing and by phone the reason and when he is coming so nothing gets lost in the message.
you can also write the newspaper and a letter to the editor and once it is in the paper his reputation is ruined. You can talk to your neighbors and ask them how they deal with him too...(if it is an apartment building.) Call the owner..if he is a manager... |

You're renting it, that means you live there and for all intents and purposes it's your place. If he lets himself in without asking that's trespassing. |

Landlords are not allowed to enter the unit without being let in unless they give 24 hour notice that they will be stopping in. |

Don't change the locks as someone suggested, that isn't legal, but your landlord has no right to let himself in to your apartment without 24 hours notice. I'd let him know that you keep a gun in the house and how close he came to being shot. |

They shouldn't be allowed to do that, however shooting him might be a bit over reactive. |

Unfortunately, there are many "semi-pro" landlords out there who never bother to learn the law, and wrongly assume they can walk in anytime because they own the property.
However, landlords may not legally enter leased premises without prior authorization unless there is a legitimate emergency, such as a fire or water leak.
Inform your landlord, who may not be aware of these facts, that he may not enter your home without notifying you first. Simply showing up in your living room is trespassing, not to mention very inappropriate and creepy. |

You can't change the locks, but you can make a written demand that you be notified before he enters (24 hours is customary). Keep the chain on the door when you're home. |

Read your lease!
Read your State laws.
Shoot him and go to jail.
In Arizona unless it is an emergency, we give 48 hour notice.
If you call in a work order, we ask permission to enter for normal things. |

At least in Texas the landlord is required to provide those locks that can only be locked or unlocked form the inside. That would make it impossible for anyone to do what you just said.
It is a security issue and a privacy issue. Call a locksmith and ask what the local laws are- they generally know the laws about locks.
Also in Texas you can shoot an intruder if you are in fear of your life but you can not just because to don't like what he is doing. |

He's not allowed in. If he wants to come by he has to schedule an appt. Call the police on him! |

Okay

Do you still have the gun on him? If so, squeeze the trigger. |

Mine did this two, every state is different look up the laws about that were you live. I just don't want to give you the wrong answer. But in Pa he can't do that. I bitched at him and then moved out then told everyone. Ruined his reputation he such an asshole. But he cannot do this. Why did he say he did it? |

Well they can do that if your not in your place. But if your in your place, the landlord, he or she needs to ask your permission, to go in. |

They are not allowed to do that. That is an invasion of privacy and I would probably shoot him if he were in my house! |
