Anthon | Live in Landlord? |
I have been living in an apartment for over a year now.Sharing with a gay male. I have no problem with him being gay, i myself am straight. For the first couple of months things were perfect, but then he quit his job and is constantly there in the apartment.
His first complaints were closing the door when coming in late at night. I apologised and was careful not to do it again.
Next complaint was water on bathroom floor after a shower, having my window open in my room, eating microwaved food,
not getting up early at the weekends, the couch being slightly out of place when he returned after a weekend away.Every day there was something different, I was on tender hooks just walking into the apartment.
I finally had enough and when he asked me at 12am to get out of bed and clean the oven after me. I stuck to my guns and said I would rather do it in the morning.
He then proceded to say that he is going to go back to the landlord agency to find another tenant.
what to do? Additional Details Thanks guys.
Think he does have a problem with his life. I think he enjoyed the power , i'm sure someone bullied him when he was younger.
I just let him do it for too long, i'm pretty laid back and don't like confrontation.
I'm going to move on. |

Sounds like this guy is just one of those "everything's got to be perfect at all times" type of person. My opinion... get out before it gets worse. Check your lease and then check your rights as a tenant. I'm sure there's a way for you to break your lease if you feel uncomfortable in your own home!
Good luck! |

find another place and soon this guy is a loose cannon. he obviously has a problem with your lifestyle and it has nothing to do with being gay.
I'm gay and I'm kind of a slob myself. i would have been kicked out by now i'm sure.
try not to let stereotypes cause you to say anything stupid that will find your stuff on the street when you get home. if he is high strung it because thats how he is and maybe because he has nothing else to think about while hes home all day.
he may be stressed about that but thats not your problem. |

Personally, I'd get annoyed enough that I'd want to get out anyway.
I've actually been a live-in landlord, but I really hope I haven't been as tetchy as this guy sounds.
Hope things work out for you. |

Do you have a written lease?
What are its provisions?
Sounds to me like you ought to get out for your own peace of mind. Start looking. |

Some thoughts...Who holds the lease..is it in both of your names or just his?
It sounds as if he is trying to get rid of you, maybe another roommate in mind?
I's start looking for a new place..do you want to continue to live your life this way? |

Consider yourself lucky, he is letting you out of the lease. You can find a better place and maybe even live alone so you don't have to deal with random people's issues.
Good luck! |

About the only thing you can do is read your lodgers agreement, and find out how much notice he has to give you.
What you have described is ridiculous - it feels like he's got problems in his life, and is taking them out on you for no other reason than "because you're there".
If you were a tenant (ie - renting the whole place from him) then he'd certainly be in breach of his obligations.
Because you're a lodger (living in the same house as your landlord, with shared facilities), then you may have to put it down to him being an **** and move on as quickly as possible.
You may find that a lawyer would advise you to sue him for harassment over things like the "getting you out of bed" issue... but I'd be tempted just to get on with my life.
So, personally, I'd go to the agency, or onto gumtree.com, and find another room to rent pronto. |

If I were you I'd move anyway. When you come home you need to feel relaxed and happy, you sound neither. Find somewhere better |
