You could always say that unless you hear from them you will pay for the work to be done as you consider it a health hazard and will claim the money back from them......or why not buy the house from them at a knock down price and get the work done then by borrowing money against its value. |

see your local MP they will get it sorted.. or get enviromental health in to take a look.. especially if you have kids... and if the kids have asthma ask the council to move you or get it sorted..on medical grounds.. |

They have some clout.
Could stop paying rent and write to council stating why you are not paying but you are keeping money in trust until house is made fit to live in.
Write to local paper, bad news for council if they print your story and council will be round within hours. |

Don't ring them.
Visit the council offices with a written complaint. If you have young children, take them with you, ask to see the housing officer. Tell them if you don't get the problem sorted, that you reported 5 months back, you will contact environmental health. Ask to be directed to the EH office by the housing officer. You don't have to be nasty, just state your facts. If you have children and they are ill because of the damp, get your doctor to back you up.
Going to the local papers and MP should be saved if all else fails.
(The reason I said take the children, is they will get restless and you should get seen quicker.) |

Kick up a fuss. You know those irritating people who always get everything done! They achieve it by being a real pain in the butt till someone does something just to shut them up. Papers, GMTV anything that gives you more clout. Take pictures. Go to citizens advice get them to write a letter. call every day. Go down to the offices. Anything to get it sorted. Damp is terrible for your health especially if you have a bad chest. If it is affecting your health get your doctor on your side. We all pay council tax and where is it going? On flowers in middle of roundabouts when peoples houses are really damp....something just doens't seem right!

You need to ring your council again and ask for someone higher in management about your problem. The receptionist should tell you who that person is. If they don't speak to on the phone then you write them a letter stating your argument and that you will seek further advice on this matter if they don't sort your problem out soon... You can contact your local MP and tell him/her, they might be able to help... |
