We live in NY now. We plan on doing this in 2 years, when we graduate for college. We all understand what this is going to require.
We are going to save money now. We all have jobs, can drive, etc.
Our plan: move to cali a month before college starts and get jobs, and an apartment. WE split the rent. We understand the responsiblity such as not constantly partying.
My question: What am i forgetting. I will add additional details as the answers ask for them. so check back.
ALSO we plan on moving to the san diego area. What should we know.

San Diego is very pricey. However, if I had a choice to live in LA or San Diego.....definately San Diego. It's cleaner and classier. LA is a pit, trash everywhere on the freeways, the infrastructure needs replaced badly. The list goes on and on.
As far as where caucasians are the minority....well, it won't be in San Diego. You will have better luck finding that living situation in LA. |

You should know jobs do not grow on trees. So you are wanting to go to college in CA? First of all, research colleges to find otu where you can get in. Then all 3 of you have to get in. Dorms and a meal plan may be cheaper than an apt, at least for the first year, while you learn your way around. San Diego is a VERY desirable area, so expect jobs to be tight and rent to be high. |

Lots of money. You are moving to a state with a very high cost of living overall, and then deciding to go to one of the areas with an even higher cost of living, San Diego. It's almost like looking for an apartment in Beverly Hills.

San Diego is a military town so an apartment is going to cost some serious $$$. You might contact the college and see if they have dorms. Yeah it's going to stink but in the long run you'll save money. |

I lived in San Diego for years, and rich caucasians are the majority. It is a really fun city. Tons of things to do and places to go. It does have its darker side. There is a lot of gang activity in San Diego, and crime is a problem. The freeways are horrendous, and morning hour traffic is stop and go. There are a lot of latinos, because California is a border state. Rent is sky high, but salaries are higher than many other places. The weather- what weather! Even in the summer you need a light blanket at night. Once in a while a Santa Ana will blow through. Think a hair dryer on high blowing directly at your face. Days are for the most part wonderful and sunshiny. Rainy season in the winter. You can have a fire on the beach, which is really nice. Have fun and stay safe. |

update your info with the DMV, Social Security office, i would change your bank to Wamu if you don't have them already. San Diego is awsome but expensive...there's plenty of latinos especially in socal...Sandiego has a bunch of white surfer guys though...they're not annoying...and remember you can make right turns on a red light if it's clear. |

Why would you want to move there?
Cost of living is very high, traffic sucks, gasoline expensive.
Better bet. Go to Arizona State University A.S.U. and move to Arizona.
That's what a lot of people who currently live in San Diego will be doing over the next year.
