You can be the cleanest person in the world and still have mice in your building. It is up to you to keep a clean apt and keep food in their containers. Still, they live in walls, and not necessarily anyones fault. Notify the landlord in writing and have him put out bait traps or poison to kill them.
As mice are not unusual, she doesnt get any compensation for having them. Asking the landlord for her months rent back is ridiculous and she wont get it.
As long as the landlord is addressing the issue, she can call the environmental health department until she is blue in the face. She wont get anywhere there either. Nor can she break her lease because of it. |

she wont get free rent but it is up to the landlords to deal with as a matter of urgency,
we had mice ,we live top floor, we are not dirty
in the end it was the bl**dy neighbours cat keep bringing things in , until 1 nested and then we were overrun.
humane traps with apple and raisans works best.
i caught all 6 mice in 2 days |

She can phone the Civic Centre and they will give her a visiting date for a ratcatcher to come to put down some poison. Noooo its not to do with cleanliness. I get mice nearly every year as I have a field at the back of my house and they come in nearly every winter as the house is warm.
I dont think she can get compensation from her landlord or the estate agent. How are they to know if there are mice there unless they live there and see or hear them?. I have had a rat and also a couple of squirrels too in the winter!!! |

I don't know about the compensation , but if she reports the matter to her local Council and asks for help , they will send some round to sort the problem , send the bill to the landlord |

I once rented a top floor flat and got mice, I think they come of the roof. Its really nasty, I thought I was seeing things out of the corner of my eye then one day there was this huge mouse sitting in my kitchen. The landlord would not do any thing. I don't know what her rights are as things may have improved that was a long time ago.
Check the flat for any small holes they can get into mice can squeeze throught the tiniest gaps. Put all food away. They can climb over the top of wall units.
EDIT looked at the answer below thats a good idea to get a humaine trap. Also hear they love chocolate. |

OOHHH please another weirdo trying to make a quick buck... why doesn't she just get rid of the mice? It is the landlords responsibility to get rid of the mice. however unless we all know where your from your going to get very vague asnwers as different states and countries have different real estate and landlord laws. you should check with your state/country laws.
where i am from the landlord has a certain amount of time by law to remedy these types of situations or the tenant may leave and break the lease and or contract without paying. |

If she make a formal complaint and follws through with it, she should be compensated. If she has spent any money towrds this, she should have that as leverage for a unfit home. If there is a pest problem, that is sub standard living and the landlord should deal with it. Have her get a cat, too. |

Normally if this lady had read the contract before she'd signed to move in,then she should have been allowed to check the inside and outside of her apartment area,so she could list in detail any problems that were apparent before she moved in.Secondly, the real estate people are renting or selling property by secondary parties or people that actually own the place, unless the real estate people had bought the property directly from the second party,to use for their own rent to own plans. In either case, this lady should have been told of all the damages or coverage plans they the real estate people deal in,and then explain in detail what will be the clients responsibilities,to either inform the real estate people of the problem if the contract says that it is their responsibility,or that of the person that has to live there. So in short, the lady needs to go over her contract with the real estate people, before trying to sue.If the contract states that she understood all the details and ruling key points to her being a resident in that place, and she is aware of what was signed in agreement by both parties(her and the real estate people),then she needs to follow up on what is in legal writings, before trying to follow up on a law suit in court.Otherwise she has nothing to go on,unless proven differently that it's somebody's job to take care of certain problems inside or outside the place. |
