Question Queen Mentally Special!
Mold is in my closet. I'm afraid to get evicted from my apartment. I don't know how it got there.?
The lease states that if mold is found in our apartment, then it's automatic eviction.

Dr. KIA GCGâ„¢ Puppy Love
i wouldn't worry about eviction, i'd worry about my health, i'd clean that mess up and get the hell outta there before you get sick...

p.s. they can not enforce that as you are only an occupant of a building that is their responsibility...it is their job to repair structural damages and you could have a lawsuit against them

You're not getting evicted baby. Get you a bucket and put 1 part Clorox to two parts water. Put gloves on and scrub it down. Leave the door open - don't shut it and get some air to it - a fan if you've got it. **huggles you cuz it's gonna be ok** ♥

Sour Girl
That does not sound right, how can mold be your fault. In any case believe me its not that easy to kick people out you would have plenty of time. Just find a way how to get rid of it and they probably won't even know.

Good luck.

THAT IS STUPID... if mold is in your apartment, then it was already there more than likely ....
um but i would not stay in there for tooo long, Mold is like a slow killing poison... from experience I have lipnoids that flare up under my arm pits, due to being in a molded area for too long... thank god i moved

Get to scrubbing then. ☼

edit: a clause like that in a lease sounds like they knew the potential was there already. Hmmmmm

AsUwish !
1st off, that really isn't an enforceable stipulation. The mold could have been a factor preceding your habitation. The previous tenants could have had mold, cleaned it and painted over it only to have it re-appear at a later date.

2nd- It could be an internal problem such as leaky plumbing in which case it would be the apartment co.'s responsibility in which you are not at fault

3rd and finally, It could be from the tenant under, beside, or above you whose mold problem has spread and began to affect your dwelling.

In any case, I do not see that you are in jeopardy of eviction when you could easily take them to court over any of the things I stated above. Your best bet is to clean it, or have it professionally cleaned which is the better choice.

if the mold is coming from a leaking pipe behind the walls its not your fault and they can be held liable for exposing oyu to toxic substances. check it out

new nanna
That is usually a circulation problem. Clean it all and keep the door open for a while to let some air in. It isn't your fault - it's just what happens when there isn't enough air circulating.

schwildcat1977
I've never heard of a clause like that and I doubt that it is legal!!!

Mold is rarely the tenant's fault unless you had no heat on in the place or something.

Clean it up - get a professional if you are not sure how.

Reverend Black Grape
You'd better clean it then. Get busy.

bassdoc
Get out the lysol, clean it out and keep it dry in the future.
