SweetCocoaAngel | Monthly payments(living on your own)? |
As far as bills goes I wanted to see if this was accurate. Also, my parents said that if I move out in like a year or two they could help me by paying the monthly rent. So I tried to talk them out of it but they really want to help and would feel bad if they couldn't. So I am only limiting on getting a place at most $1,000 a month. ((and also as long as I stay in school and try to get at least one or two degrees. because the student loan will bill them once I stop going to school. so yeah.))
So I wanted to see if this was accurate for two people. (me and my boyfriend if we are still together in a year or two.))
Groceries: $450
Gas for Car: $400
Internet/direct tv: $180
Gas/electric/heat: $150
Water/sewege/trash: $150
Entertainment/going out: $150
Clothes:$150
Car emergancy:$50
Extras(shampoo,shavers,etc.) : $50
Cleaning supplies: $50
Cell phone (2): $150
Total(round): $2,000 a month.
As far as extra cushining goes I did that just incase like if one of us gets sick we have like back up. also i'm not counting on buying us clothes every month. but I wanted to put taht aside just incase like we see somethign we can be like "oh you want this shirt? okay this will come out of the clothes money." or something like that. so yeah. help.
Additional Details Before I move out i'm going to have like $1,500 for emergancy money |

Your water price seems really high.
Your clothing purchases could easily be limited to $150 every other month.
In fact, put the $150 from one month of clothing into the car emergency fund.
Gas may be high too. Prices are down now. I drive 50 miles a day and spend nowhere near $400 for gas.
Limit the amount of cable channels you have. I pay $86 per month for cable and internet (High Speed Internet)
Cleaning supplies also seems high. You can get a lot of use out of the first $50 cleaning supply purchase (more like 3 months or even more)
The easiest way too see daily where your money is going is use a program like Microsoft Money or whatever program. Save your receipts and enter them into different categories like rent, gas, clothes, food, cleaning, phone and etc...

possible but if I were your parent I would not pay for a boyfriends expenses as he needs to be paying his way even half the rent |

It depends on where you live - prices differ from place to place. I think, though, that your numbers probably won't come out exactly as you have them - which you know - but they will wash, meaning that the total may be right about what you figure. |

It really does depend on where you live.
I live w/ my boyfriend, we're in Ft. worth Area in Texas. in an apartment.
for us, this is how it usually goes:-- more on the high end...
Groceries $200
Gas (we both don't drive much, i work close to home) $150
Internet/tv $100
electric $200
water: $40 Trash is included in rent
Entertaining $150 (we try and limit it)
clothes $50 (we don't buy much clothing)
Car emergency... since this isn't every month... it sort of just is in misc.
Extras- once again, don't get it every month.. .but i'd say about $20
cleaning supplies... don't buy them every month... but maybe $15
Cell... For just me i pay 100- Boyfriend and his dad share a plan.
Our current rent is $940... but we'll be moving to a cheaper place (around 500 in about 6 months)
Once again, this is just for me and my boyfriend... and depends on what area you're in...
good luck! |

Okay, so you're a student but you forget to add in your student expenses? You never know what supplies you'll be needing and usually they're very pricy. You should also add in another option for miscellaneous purchases, you also never know what unnecessary things you'll be getting. I'd say a range from $2,500-3K to be more fair and safe. |

I think you forgot rent and entertainment. You need to count all of that in. I spend about 3000 a month living in an apartment. Plus, you utilities will be more depending on where you live. A lot of apartments pay for water and sewage so you may want to look into those too. It also depends in the area you want to live in cost of living is a big factor in you apartment search. I would save about $2000 before moving out for cushion. Plus, open up a savings account for yourself in case say one of you losses your job and you have enough to cover. You never know . |

Groceries my be a bit high. Cleaning supplies may be a bit high too.
Electric/Gas/ Heat may be a bit low...depending where you live.
What about savings? You need to have something in case something goes wrong or if you want something in the future.
And your parents may not want to pay forever. |

Is america really that expensive?
I am living in scotland and i spend £277/month on rent (abount $600), arround £20/month in bills ($40) and arround £150/month on everything else ($300).
I suppose its for two of you, but this is a fairly comfortable budget, and if you are worried about you parents not being able to afford to help then cut down on some of the things in there that are not nessisary, like $150 a month on the phone. I dont even know how you would go about that without talking on it fairly constantly!!
Also, you appear to be paying an awful lot for internet and TV, but then, it may be different in the US. Over here we are paying £20/month internet and phone, and dont have a tv but a licence is £170/year, which is arround $70/month total.
Also, cleaning supplies $50/month?? You really really cant get through more than one bottle of bleach a month and two or three packs of sponges no matter how hygenic you are. That comes to about $10 at most.
The car emergancy fund is probably actually a little bit too small as there will probably be something go wrong at least once a year and you will have to pay arround $400 each time it does as a minimum, and its nice to have a bit put away incase you compltely trash it (insurance rarely coveres more than about half of a new car)
Groceries? Too much. $300/month would probably be quite adiquate unless you are eating steak every day. |

2 000 a month should get you by well , after the first month decide if any of the budget needs adjusted , never spend more than you make , living within your means and saving will save you a lot of grief when bad times come , and they do... |
|

Im...Kind of a BIG DEAL!
|
give or take, 2000 sounds about right...wait, i dont think i see rent in there! |

haha. well one thing, water shouldn't be more than $25 a month.. and i'm assuming your parents are paying for your car insurance.. |
