At the very least, she knew something was going on, was complicit, and eventually became a conspirator in the crime(s).
I have done thousands of closings (literally), and when I see something fishy going on, I show them the door.
There are no "innocent" bystanders in mortgage fraud. Unless she has some degree of mental retardation, she knew something was up. |

This is one that did actually happen. If her name is on the list then she was actually a victim of their crime. These people did so much harm but unfortunately most of these people are going to lose their homes. I am going to say something that may seem rude but people need to pay more attention to what they are signing. IF IT SEEMS TO BE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE THAN IT PROBABLY IS!!!! If it is NOT coming from a REAL lending company that is not from a WELL ESTABLISHED BANKING COMPANY don't touch it. There at too many ways to trace these lenders. If were going to buy a home and take out a loan I would checking it out twice maybe three times. These people pulled off a scam but there scam was only paper thin, people should have looked deeper. I watched a show on them and their offer even sounded "wrong" from the jump street. Like I said, only use established "banking establishments". "Round the Way" lenders are those who are only out to take people's home!! I am sorry for your friend. It is a shame she didn't have anyone to help her read the contracts and to help her understand that the basic theme that "IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE than it usually ISN"T TRUE"!!!! These guys are going to jail but when they get out they are still going to be big and large rich!!!! |

I'd say if was very unlikely someone involved didn't have a least an idea that something not quite legal or above board was happening.
However, if they only played a very small role in it then they might have not known to what extent things where being done illegally.
Especially if they were only getting a few hundred dollars or something from it. Then they might have just thought it was a small scam that nobody would notice. Just like many people cheat on benefits claims and don't think they are criminals, when actually technically they are. |
