Some of the suggestions of friends and charities are ok but you could apply for a Crisis Loan from the DWP. It is discretionary but they may help with a loan to get a mover to help you. The loan is then recovered through your benefit. Good luck though trying to get throiugh can be a nightmare and they can be very slow.

I am always reassured by how helpful and non judgmental people are when dealing with other people's problems. I sincerely hope they never have need of help

Same as knownow says love, have a look in your street
for a white van parked up and knock on door or doors,
there are kind souls out there who are willing to help
a young lady in distress.
Good luck.

Hi, you are entitled to a crisis loan from DHSS or a budgeting loan which you will have tto pay back. You should put in for it now as they can take time. Your best bet is to go to them as it will be alot quicker. My son is on income support & he got a community care grant as he had to move out through personal reasons, as you were homeless you should ask them if you are eligible. Hope this helps & goodluck!

you can go to Lowes and rent a pickup for $30 bucks a day and get help from a few friends to move your stuff. make a day of it.

I had a similar problem and had to ask friends to help. I also had to pay economy rental on a van, which a friend drove.

The unfortunate thing is that funding is tight for our respective local councils, so they are unlikely to provide the kind of help you need (though I feel that your homeless officer was less than professional and should have been a bit more tactful and resourceful).

A secondary option may be to approach charitable organisations and ask them for help. The first charity that you approach may not be able to help directly, but they will know of another organisation who can.

Best of luck with your move

Hi, I work for benefits.

You can get a budgeting loan from DWP which covers removal expense, you wll need to pay back a small amount out of your Income Support which they will automatically deduct each week, check out the link belowand visit your local job centre plus for a claim form

A crisis loan or community care grant doesn't cover removal costs but a budgeting loan does

how much more tax payers money do you want, i work full time and you are probably on more than me, if i move i have to pay for transporting my stuff myself, you must have known you were moving ages ago, save like the rest of us

Your officer is right, you should figure this out on your own. You know the area in which you live, presumably you must have some aquaintances...you need to coordinate your own move. I wonder why you would expect someone to take care of it for you? Just because you are low income and living on aid, does not mean that you cannot think for yourself and work things out. Frankly it makes you sound lazy- which I am sure you do not want to be classified as. Get off of your tush and find people to help you, you can figure this out!

**I just read your additional comments- all the more reason that people will be willing to help. Extend yourself to others- you must have someone you know through a job or in a similar situation...or look to your current neighbors. If someone came and asked me to load up my econoline van and help them move cuz they were broke and needed help my answer would be "let me get my keys!" This necessitates you being thrifty...you can do it! Good luck!

Find a helpful friend with a white van....or a large estate car...like the rest of us have to do.....be self reliant.

Edit
What I mean is that I have been in similar situation, and had to ring around and get help....many people are poor and generally this makes them more self reliant, not less.....I am at a loss to suggest what else to do.....

You must have known you were going to move! you should have saved a little and hired a van and moved the stuff yourself. I had no money when i moved and done exactly that and i had 2 children to manage. Can't believe you have left it this late.
