It depends upon what you're looking for. Do you prefer the city or the country? Do you have a car or do you need public transportation? What kind of weather appeals to you? What kind of job are you looking for?

DO NOT move to NY! Unless you move upstate, where you can get a very nice apartment for $500.00/month.
You can get an ok apartment for about $350.00, or share a house with some people for $250/month.
North Carolina is a great state...I would look into moving to Raleigh. I'm considering it. |

I lived in 2 states recently so I can tell you about that. I lived over in Hawaii in Waikiki you can get studios from about $650-$1000up. 1 Bedrooms will cost you about $850-$1200up. The reason I say up is if you get ocenview it'll hit you. I just moved to Vegas and I have a nice 1 bedroom with washer/dryer/dishwasher very clean and pay $640 per month. |

I think you should concentrate not so much on which state, but the city - as prices can vary greatly even in the same state.
Go on craig's list - you can search by city and see what apartments are being advertised and for how much. I would say your other concern should be a job, eh? You have to pay for your apartment.
If you do decide to live in an apartment; but are concerned about global warming - let me know - I know a great carbon offset program for people who don't own a home - so they can't put up a solar panel as they rent - but they can donate to offset their carbon use..... it is a great way for renters to give back to the earth - and they take small donations; so it doesn't have to hurt to help.

Go to the newspaper in the area you want to move to...it is probably on-line, or a town nearby will be. then go to house/apt. rentals and check it out. When I was in Holland, I was able to pull up a California paper and find furniture before I moved here.
