My Granddad is a pensioner who is looking for a house to rent. The government would pay him the amount needed directly to his bank account. i want to know whether he is Dss or not. Because someone said dss is when the person renting the house is paid directly by the goverment. But as the government puts it into my granddads account, he would pay cash in hand. So is he a normal buyer or counted as dss?
He would be classed as DSS. It is just a generic name for anyone who relies on state benefits to pay their rent.
Many landlords will not accept such people (especially younger DSS) because being on benefits almost certainly means you have minimal assets - which is a major business risk.
