My electricity was turned off- do I have recourse?
The power company is in the process of installing new- bigger- power lines behind the houses. Due to problems with encroachment, they required the storage shed in the back of my rental property be moved.
They had sub-contacted that particular job out. Today 2 very shabby looking characters arrived to move my shed. I was told they would have to disconnect the electrical lines to the shed. I went out for a short time and when I returned began to start Thanksgiving dinner preparations. I just noticed I have no electricity on the back of my home, where my kitchen is located. I am steaming. Do I have any recourse?

Have you called the power utility and reported the outage????

I doubt it!

Call the electric company. If they sub contracted the job then they should be able to fix it today even though it is the evening before the holiday.
If they do not get the electricity working tonight then I would say that yes you should be compensated by the electric company for going through the holiday without electricity.

Just make sure none of your circuit breakers were tripped. If they were not, call the electric company.

My city suffered a number of extended power outages (2-8 days!) over the last 18 months or so due to weather issues, and we got nothing from the power company for the 3-5 times (so many I forgot) we all had to empty and refill our refrigerators and freezers.

mission_viejo_california
call your city council, and or county office

They probably blew your fuse, flip the switch or replace the fuse, depending on what type of fuse box you have.

Yes you can call your electric company and tell them if they are responsible for making your family miss Thanksgiving then the next call they get will be from your lawyer. You want someone out there TODAY to hook your lines back up and get your electricity on.

Ohhhh that sucks!!!! Sorry...I hope it gets fixed shortly.
I don't know about recourse,but,look into it....

You might have recourse against your landlord (I'm under the impression that you're renting).
