My job needs me in FL, my lease in PG county in MD is till Dec,how do I avoid 2mths rent payment to end lease?
I spoke to an employee at the leasing office who said the only way to break my lease would be to pay 2mnths rent, I have lost my agreement and so am not sure what my lease stipulates. I was in FL from March and had to pay Rents in MD and FL coupled with car payments and insurance etc etc, its killing me now, what can I do. I have no idea how am going to pay my rent this month. Please help. I cant afford an attorney at this moment.

Sublease/ lease transfer, throw in a discount on the rent~100-50$. say it is only for 2 months..

Or other ways round, let the apt be in your name, let others live for 2 mo.. let them pay what ever they can. and then you empty the apt @ the end of 2nd month
- those who are looking for temp accomodation. -( PS you may be paying for their damages if they are terrible ppl)

Craigslist might be a good place to start.. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/

Ask for a copy of the contract. I suspect odds are not in your favor and you will have to *gasp* be a responsible adult and figure out what you're going to do. Perhaps you can speak with your employer and let them know your predicament.

You just can't break a lease because you're suddenly too broke and/or too cheap to pay.

talk to your job. let them know what the leasing office said. Maybe since they want you to go to FL then they may help you pay for breaking the lease. Good luck.

If being in Fl is a condition of keeping your employment, check your state laws. Some states have laws that prohibit landlords from keeping people in a lease when they must move for a job. It varies from state to state but I would go on to your state attorney general's website and check it. If so, then I would get a letter from your employer, a copy of the law and present it to your landlord.

If your employer is asking you to pull up roots and move like this, they should bear the responsibility of handling this expense.

It's not your landlord's fault that you have to move. You signed a legal binding contract to rent the premises for a year. Count your blessings that they only want TWO months rent. They're entitled to the full amount of the lease until they re-rent, plus expenses for re-rental.

An attorney won't do you any good, if your lease states what they say it says. There are no laws which will help you avoid this expense because of your employer's requirement that you move to Florida.

If you lost your lease, ask for another copy. The office should have one on file. Then review it carefully and make certain that your landlord has been keeping THEIR end of the bargain as well. For example, has the upkeep and maintanance of your housing been done satisfactorily? HAve they notified you of changes in writing? Have they provided you with the type of environment they promised? If not, then write a letter and ask that you be let out in exchange for you not challenging their failure to upkeep the lease themselves. Otherwise, you are probably stuck. If you have more than two months left on your lease, you are lucky you don't have to pay more! Try to find a subleaser and go from there. Good luck!

Your employer should pay the rent in Md.

Ask for a copy of ur rental agreement. If they can't give u a copy, pay 1 month rent, and leave the place spotless, and in great condition.

If they take u to small claims court, and don't have a copy of the rental agreement then, you won't be liable for anything. If they DO show up with a copy of it, then u'll be responsible for whatever u agreed to in the rental agreement.

The only way out of your lease is to buy your self out of it meaning that you would have to pay a penalty (two months in this case) talk to your employer, since they need you they should help you relocate.

The rental office should be able to give you a copy of your lease. If your job is asking you to move, they should help you out. Usually they pay moving expenses, maybe they will pay to break your lease too. See if they leasing office will let you pay the 2 months to break the lease in smaller payments over like 6 months or something. Did you leave a deposit? Tell them they can keep your deposit as a down payment on the 2 months.
