n/a | My landlord refuses to stop entering my apartment without my permission. I want him to stop.Any suggestions? |
He has entered on several occassions.
I have not caught him in the act. I have found several items moved around and I have seen him lurking around and staring in my window.
I put a screen on the window. He has started to rip off the screen.
I do not have a boyfriend to beat him senseless.
Him and his wife also wake me every morning at 7 a.m.by being very loud.
I do not have enough money to move. |

change the locks. Very easy to do, even if you have no DIY experience, so long as you have $20 and a screwdriver.
Technically, the landlord i supposed to have a key - but the second he asks why you've changed the locks, you'll know he's tried to get in!
You will be required eventually to give him a key - but as he'll be reluctant to tell you he knows you've changed the locks (because that would be admitting he's been coming in illegally) - you'll probably get away with it for ages.
If you were really bothered you could sue him/call the police.
I know this is going to sound strange, but count the items in your underwear drawer, and after each time you think he has been in, count them again.
The most common thing that is taken in these kind of situations in underwear.
One good trick you could try, is (if you have a webcam) leave your computer on, with the monitor switched off, and aim the webcam at your front door. sit at a friends house, and watch it. (or if you don't have time for that. record it).
As soon as you see him enter, he can be arrested.
Another option is to get a solicitor to send him a letter, but you are at risk of getting evicted the minute you put a foot wrong - you may be able to sue him for evicting you, but it will be a long drawn out process, and it will cost a lot of money |

What does your lease say about him entering? Read it thoroghly. All states have laws to protect you and also landlord. Changing locks will cause you trouble. He has a right to have key and enter to inspect apartment. Call the local police and also the local real estate board, and also Better Business Bureau and file complaint. Also, check out your states law for tenant and landlords......
After you fnd our rights and laws, send certified letter to him explaining your rights and his duties as landlord. Send the police by to explain he cannot constantly be in your apt....also talk to an attorney, you may have legal recourse and end of receiving settllment. Be sure to document all instances, and if you have video camera secretly set it up and capture him on tape. |

i am a landlord and former tenant and by law i am not aloud to enter without 24 hr notice and reason why.
i never enter 4 anything unless the tenant is present and I'm making repairs.
one time i had to enter 4 safety reasons and i had a police officer with me.
ur landlord is a perv. i would try to find another place but if u cant or ur locked in to a lease.
call the cops and document everything.
is ur landlord also the owner if not contact the owner. talk to other tenants and let them know u think someone has been in ur apt.
dont say who you think it is, and ask them to keep a look out.
then face ur landlord and say " i need my locks changed, someone has been in my apt " then he will know ur r on to him and maybe he will back off.
good luck |

Changing the locks won't do any good as landlords are required to have access in case of emergencies. I would have a long talk with the landlord with an attorney from legal aid with you. Be careful though, do one thing outside of the lease agreement and plan on being evicted |

Sounds like he creeps you out, but you do NOT have any evidence he's been in your apartment.
#1: You can't go to the police, because "some things were moved around" is so far from evidence that anybody, let alone your landlord specifically, has been in the apartment that they don't have time to even look into it.
#2: Do NOT change the locks. Doing so violates your lease, and can and will get you evicted.
I agree with the poster who suggested you get a webcam and leave it on. You can even just have it record to your own harddrive (make sure you password protect your computer if you're going to leave it running). If you DO get proof he is entering repeatedly (not just once, that could be passed off as an emergency), or doing anything in your apartment like rummaging through your stuff, then you can go to the police. But really, that's not going to let you stay there.
Once you do have evidence, maybe it's best to confront him, and/or threaten to tell his wife, who is probably unaware of what he is doing. |

You may look into your lease and see if is states it in there that he can or cannot enter your apartment without your permission. If he still thinks he can, you may want to talk to a police officer and see what advise they might give you. |

Call and make a police report -
He is probably a pervert.
Start as soon as you can looking for another place.
Good Luck |

Call the police and have him arrested for breaking and entering....all landlord tenant laws in every state require that the landlord give at least 24hrs notice...unless it's an emergency.
Don't worry about getting kicked out....the owners most likely will fire him....you also may file a civil suit against the landlord and owners.
If they kick you out..you have another reason to file a civil suit for retaliation. |

Report him to the police. You could also take him to small claims court. |

Ask for another unit away from his unit to stop the noise.
Put a padlock on the door and a stick in the windows to keep the slimeball from entering your apartment when you are not there. A chain on the inside will stop him while you are home.
If there is a pattern of trespassing, borrow or rent a video camera to catch him in the act and report him to the police. |

Call your landlord and tell him that you know that he is entering the apartment for non-emergency reasons, and if he does it again, you will call the police for breaking and entering.
Meanwhile...see if you can borrower someone's video camera.
A landlord made the news recently and went to jail for doing the same thing to a tenant of his. |
