My neighbors upstairs refuse to keep their noise down. What are some ways to annoy them back?

If you start down that road, you'll make a bad situation worse.

I have felt ur pain... there is no real way to annoy them back without creating enemies. If you have asked them more than once or twice to respect you by keeping the noise level down, look in your lease and see if there is a clause that states that there is to be peace between tenants and personal space is to be respected or something like that.. If there is nothing stated, then speak with your landlord and see what they say.. if they can't resolve your issues, inform the landlord that if they do not respect your space and privacy, etc.. You may be forced to call the authorities. But MAKE SURE YOU SPEAK WITH YOUR LANDLORD BEFORE CALLING THE COPS... I do not recommend calling them unless you want the reprocussions of it. It can and will make the length of your lease or theirs a living nightmare... TRUST ME!!!

complain to the landlord - maybe they will be evicted.

if that doesnt work - then complain to city council. they will have to pay fines.

By noise do mean loud music, loud parties, use of loud appliances after 10pm (dishwasher, garbage disposal, washing machine, dryer), or just normal apartment noise? Normal apartment noise is walking, showering, talking, animals, or other regular living noise. If they are truely just being loud outside of normal apartment noise you should contact the management and have them set up a meeting with you and your neighbor. If the management will not meet with you than you should call the police when they are loud after hours. Make sure you document everything. If it is normal apartment noise you are trying to stop. You can't. The only thing you will accomplish is getting yourself evicted. Remember you do live in a apartment and you need to understand that they are not made to cancel noise. You are going to hear your neighbors. Deal with it or buy a house.

Expert Realtor
Do the proper thing, send them an anonymous letter first.

If the noise doesn't subside, then simply call the police.

Same here. I feel that my life is ruined. I have already talked to them, my neighbors who make a very loud noise, but nothing is better. I will call the landlord tomorrow and let's see what will the manager say to me. This is because they make a normal apartment noise. I mean the way they talk together are too loud, and they keep talking until 1 -2 am. This makes me sick. If my landlord wont do anything because they are talking, I will show my neighbors leasing of the apartment, since they should make the lowest scale of noise after 11 PM. God Bless Me!
