My rent cheque has bounced, does the landlord get charged?
Basically, my landlord deposited my rent cheque a day before an incoming amount of money entered my account, the cheque has bounced, i have been charged £8, but i was wondering if she would be charged also?
Shes a funny woman anyway (not 'ha ha' funny, strange and clearly insane 'funny') and im sure she's gonna try and pull something on me anyway. Just wanted to find out the facts before she launches an assault.

Thanks a lot.

I am a landlord in USA, I see from your funny $ sign you are not from US. But here I get charged $25 from my bank if a check I deposit bounces, it stinks but then I have to go to my tenant and ask for the rent again plus a $25 fee for the bounced check and if it happens frequently I also charge the tenant the $50 fee for being late on the rent, so it can cost them an extra $75 fee to me plus whatever their bank charges them for bouncing a check.

pretty sure its the person who has the account that gets charged so that would be you or at least when i worked in a shop and checks bounced the shop was the only one getting charged.

if she tries to pull anything ask her for proof from her bank before you do anything and if she says she cant get any she is BSing cause you can get up to date statements printed out in most banks if not they can be posted out and recieved within a week.

It depends on the Bank. Some charge the depositor and the issuer and others just the issuer.

If she deposited your check and counted on your money being there and it wasn't the check will be returned. If she wrote checks they will bounce and she will be charged. If that happens she has the right to recover those charges from you. I rent to tenants and it is i their lease that if the bounce a check the charge is $35.

She wont be charged, but her direct debits could be affected if the money wasn't available when her mortgage etc was due to go through. If you dated the cheque the day before the money went in, then that's a problem you, yourself, have caused and you should honour any charges she may have to deal with. Your contract could well state a charge if a payment bounces - have a look at it.

She will be charged if your bank sends it through the second time and it bounces. If she has her account set up to only run your check through once, she will be charged. Then, she has the option to charge you what she was charged, plus a late fee on rent since, technically, you will be late, as well as the rent.

You could have caused a chain reaction due to a shortage in her account. You would be charged back for that little fiasco. Never spend money until you're sure the check has cleared your bank.

Choot
No, I don't think she will be charged. But, she might charge you for the inconvenience.

Yes and then she will pass the charge on to you if she has any sense. She should have it written into her lease to you. I charge my tenants a £20 admin fee for every chq that does not clear.

I don't know about the UK, but in the US, your landlord would also be charged a fee by most banks.
