You have to give a 30 day notice. It is state law, it does not have to be on the lease.

Normally, if the lease is silent on the matter, it reverts to a month to month arrangement requiring 30 days notice. Otherwise the landlord could come in on the last day of the lease and tell you to get out by midnight.

If you want to leave, give the landlord 30 days, just as he/she is required to do for you.

Remember, the landlord tenant relationship is not NECESSARILY adversarial!!

Contrary to what some others have posted, 30 day notice is a requirement by CA law. It does not have to be stated in the lease.

Give 30 days notice just to be considerate. It is not the law, the date is already on the lease. The 30 day notice will give the landlord time to find anyone else and also if you need a reference for future landlords, you will have one to give you a good recommendation.

You need to give 30 days notice. You can google CA tenant rights and find information on details.

Learning from experience here, be proactive in regards to you security deposits. I have moved a couple times now and have lost money with each move b/c the landlords take my security depsit. Leave the place in the same condition you moved in and take pictures/video to document how you left the place. And request a final walk through, if they don't want to give you one write them a letter regarding the request - have them sign it so if you have to go to small claims court you will have documentation.

good luck.

If you don't give a 30 day notice, you may not get your deposit back.

It would be nice to give them notice that you are planning to move. not sure if it is manditory, but it would be kind.

It's always best to give a notice before moving out even if it doesn't say to. That's giving your landlord respect and also time in having where you are moving out from time to prepare for it to be leased out again. This away no bad feelings will come about between you both.

Just move out. The lease already told you when it is over. If you had a month to month or another agreement that did not specify a termination date then you'll have to give notice.

But give a friendly reminder to your landlord and tell them to get lease exit documents prepared and get your deposit lined up.

So my roommate and I absolutely despise eachother. She is willing to sign me off the lease and the apartment complex is okay with this. If I sign off that lease does that mean I have to legally move out that day? Also if I don't sign off the lease she is threating to have multiple people move in. Can she have people move in when my name is still on the lease without my permission?
