Myself and my g/f are looking to get our own place.....?
i have moved out before into a flat with a mate! And she has lived in Australia for a year. What do you think is the best option, rent for a year to make sure we can live together or go straight in and buy? We are both living in our parents homes at the moment, and are both eager to get our own space! We are both 30 and have been dating for 10 months!!!

we have been on holiday together, and we got on great!

10 months isn't very long so I think you should rent first and see how you get on.

10 months! Try going on holiday together first. Then move out seporately and after about three years think about it.

In the usa 50% of marriages fail. I have a few apartments, and I discreetly refuse to rent to unmarried couples, because they always break up and sometimes they damage my place, and then i have to repair it.

dont do anything unless you are married

you are 30 and still living at home Are you going to be able to cope with a real relationship where you are not waited on?
Go and buy if you must be make sure you buy it 'In common' not jointly so your share of the proerty ownership is clarley stated. If it does not work out at least there will be no argument over how much each person get.s

I suggest that you rent first. You have been together for only 10 months are looking to get into a major financial situation that will affect your credit history. You answered your own question by considering whether you can live together. Your relationship is not a long one, so far, and although I wish you luck with it, suddenly living with someone everyday can make habits and other things apparent that you hadn't noticed or could walk away from before.

One step at a time. Plan a budget. Save your money for the future, keep your credit rating high and if things work out after renting, you can move on from there. Good luck.

If you rent you will be paying more than mortgage payments. And it will be like....well i want to be with you but this is in case it dont work out....not a positive approach really

If you buy make sure everything is done equally. The deeds the mortgage everything must have both names on. Any problems in the future should quickly be resolved. And Hey at least you starting off on the serious foot

And with property prices soaring you will each have a foot on the property ladder before they possibly get out of your reach

Good luck

definately rent. 10 months might seem like a long time --- yea, you got along great on vacation-but, buying a house together-- is real life.. If you break up--- you know what a headache you would have trying to deal with the house--who gets it? can you buy the other person out? can you get off the mortage?

wow, u sound like me. i'm 30, and my lady wants to look for a place cause we both live with our parents.

i say rent unless one wants to buy and the other can pay the other half. living together is a totally different monster than cuddling and rubbing noses in the parents house. rent for atleast 6 months and once u too really know how each other is to live with, than buy. that is, if the prognosis is good.

wait for a few months and then go into renting. The property market is very unstable and is slowly coming to a halt.

rent, less messy if it all goes wrong.

Don't even THINK of buying together until AFTER you're married. If you do and split up, you'll wish you hadn't. Desperately so.

george_graham_crayford
rent, prices hyper inflated fro buying

I would rent first. That's what the wife and I did and while things weren't perfect, it did show us that we could co-exist in the same space for long periods of time which is important because if you do go on to buy, money may be tight and you might be there more often (ie not going out as much) than you realise.

Just rent for six months and see how it goes. If you're doing all right together, make the effort to purchase. Everyone, at some stage in a relationship, has to make an effort to make it work because life throws all sorts of stresses and strains at us. Six months isn't long - but maybe long enough to test the relationship. Go for it.

Hi,
My son and his girlfriend are in the same situation.
They are going to rent for about 6 months to see how they get on living together,
then if it all goes well they are going to buy their own place.
As they said even though they have been together for 4 years, it is so different when you are living together.
But at the end of the day it will be yours and your girlfriends decision, and what you both feel comfortable with.
Good luck, with what you both decide to do.

P.S. Do not forget to invite me to your house warming party.

Rent for a year!!!! Don't buy straight away, test the water first. Living together is a whole different ball game, see how you go for a year or so and then look into buying, anyway with the interest rates the way they are now is not the best time to buy, and you will have more time to save for a bigger deposit etc..

I bought with my ex and I really paid the price when it all went wrong, I'm still paying for it over 7 years later.
