Check the lease you signed. He shouldn't be able to raise your rent at will because it is illegal unless you signed a lease that allowed him to do that. If you are already paying more than you agreed to when you signed, tell him to lower it and reimburse you. If he is doing this, tell him that you know it is illegal and that if he doesn't change, you will take him to court. He is also required to take care of problems, so mention that as well.

Send a certified letter to your landlord stating all the things that need to be repaired. If the landlord does not repair these items in a reasonable time, then you hire a licensed contractor to do so and deduct the cost from your rent. A landlord may not legally raise the rent in retaliation of the repairs made. If he does, you continue to pay your current rent and when summoned to eviction court, you show up and tell the judge your situation.

I have mastered the art of being a Slum Lord, all We really want to do is collect the rent due us, if we were interested in making repairs We would be Service Providers instead of Slum Lord.

Check with the housing authorities in your area, there is a thing called Landlord Tenant act, its free to the public. Your landlord has certain responsibilities to you, as you are paying for this stuff to be maintained. He cannot raise your rent every time he fixes something, and you do have rights as a tenant. Good Luck, hope this helps.

You should save and move as soon as possible. A slumlord's behavior only worsens over time. (speaking from experience) Check your lease and local landlord/tenant laws to find out about the legality of a rent increase. Try to find the number for your local fair housing office. They usually have a good amount of advice and information for those in your predicament. I hope everything works out for you.

You really have to ask your landlord to make necessary repairs. Your rent should not go up because the landlord has made the place liveable. If worse comes to worse you can have repairs made and deduct them from the rent. But of course if you do that the landlord will probably evict you. Find out what the laws are where you live for renters/landlords.

?
If you're renting on a month-to-month basis, then yes he can raise your rent at any time. Why don't you have a lease? A lease offers protection for both parties but mostly YOU as it keeps your rent the same for the term of the lease and makes the landlord responsible for fixing your stove and such.

My landlord used my shirt to stop the sewage from spraying out when he broke the pipe in my apartment...

$750 for 3 bedrooms is dirt cheap. Why did your tub run over? That sounds like your fault, not a landlord. You could be held liable for damage you caused to the apartment below yours with that water.

Stop complaining and either move or notify your rent board/landlord about the conditions.

HE CAN NOT RAISE YOUR RENT FOR REPAIRS!!!!! He can't with hold power from you. ( I am assuming that you are speaking of electrical switch box).

Seek your tenants rights commission, State Tenants rights, Attny Generals office for your state, and fair housing laws!!!! They apply in all 50 states!

Hope that helps!

Help me
Tell him all ur rent problems and beg him not to raise ur rent because it wasnt ur fault that ur stove is broken and everything. well hoping its not ur fault but yeah... If u dont want to say that tell him that u cant afford ur rent if he raises ur rent. idk... I hope everything goes well

Find a friend to fix what is broken, they wont charge to much.
Dont know what state u r in but look up your rights as a renter. Then find some way to document all the problems, pic, letters, ect. I helped a fried though a simiar situation and they ened up getting a lawyer and suing the landlord and the person who own the building.
