There is some story about how before the Great Depression everyone was buying and selling stocks and even the kid who filled your car with gas was giving stock advice. IF Everyone is giving advice- you probably shouldnt trust it....
My Point? Do some real research and dont trust things like that on this forum.

well i wish i could REALLY help you but this might be helpful, it is always smart to invest when the market is in its low point. Think of it like stocks, you never want to buy them when they are at the peak because they have a higher tendency to drop down in price and you lose your money, same concept in real estate, you want to try to work out a deal with the piece of land that you may want to buy and if you have some cash on you, hold it for a little bit, its a big risk to take but you have to figure out for how long the market has been doing bad and what other people are thinking...i would call up a real estate broker and ask them what they think, they will be more than happy to help you out, usually they may think you would like to choose them as a realtor or something for the purchase of the land lot, but ask them if they could give you a CMA, its free most of the time, i dont understand why they would charge you, so idk i hope this kind of helps you out a bit |

The real estate market is down across the board. It is probably down abt 20% in Chi, this will not change for 2-3 yrs. Plus once baby boomers start to retire, you will see i huge fall in the market, probably larger than this dip. It is a buyer's market not a seller's. In some neighborhood's real estate in Chicago hasn't lowered that much because supply and demand is pretty even. |

The areas affected by mortgages that went too high or sub slime mortgages include Chicago and all cities in USA. You have to hold on for a couple of years before selling. |

There are a few islands of positive real estate but for the most part I don't think the first up moves will be until at least spring of 2010, and that is iffy. |

Financing is only going to get harder over the coming months, so this should serve to further depress housing.
The only thing that can drive it up is a large number of people willing and able to buy houses, and I don't see this happening anytime soon, no matter what spin the NAR puts on the numbers. |
