We are a couple in our mid thirties with a toddler and cats. We are temporarily in London, trying to decide where to live in the UK. We used to happily live in Brighton (in a nice 3 bed Victorian house in Hanover) which we foolishly sold to follow our dreams in Italy. Now Brighton is too expensive for us! We're after a similar property (up to £210k) in a nice town/city (not too big), good for families, but that also has some life to it and is not too isolated, possibly no more than 2 hrs from London/Stansted. We ruled out Norwich (too isolated) and are now considering the Cambridge area (but very expensive). Any help welcome. |

I'm from Cambridge and would definitely recommend it. We were recently voted best city in UK to raise children. And it's not really all that expensive. Well if it is, I haven't noticed because I don't know any different, I guess. |

I am in the same boat as you as i need to be with an hours drive of purfleet. we are looking at chelmsford. its quite cheap and it not too bad there good shops and some of the best schools in the country. Everywhere seems to be full of chavs now so there is no getting away from them.
my only advise is stay away from the melbourne area which is the council estate part, but even this isn't as bad as some places. |

I would recommend that you look at places that are up and coming, rather than have happened. My brother lives in Brighton and I always think what an over-priced, over-crowded dump it is.
£210 is not a large budget for the UK and I think you will struggle to find anything half decent in Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire etc.
Lincoln is a beautiful city with good potential to find a nice home within your budget. There will be a direct train link to Kings Cross later this year that will get you in the capital in 2 hours.
Other towns I would consider that fall within 2 hours of London are: Bury St Edmund's, Ipswich, Grantham, Stamford, Newark on Trent and Colchester. |

Bexhill-on-Sea,its in East Sussex and is about an hour away from Brighton and 20minutes from Eastbourne,its only a small quiet place but if you want a nice place to raise your family its pretty safe. |
