No, they are responsible to repair it only. Go out an buy a few bags of ice. It will still keep it cold if it has not defrosted yet.
If its thawed, cook or throw out are your only options.
Good excuse for a block party!! |

nope, might as well buy all new food. fill up a cooler with ice from the store and put your food there. there's probably stuff there you havent touched in years anyhow...lol |

Break out the coolers get a few bucks worth of ice. That's all anyone can do.
If landlords were responsible, everyong would "claim" they had all sorts of great food in the fridge.
Look at it this way. If the power company had a substation go up in smoke and you had no electric for a few days, would the electric company be responsible? Nope. |

your apartment complex is not going to pay you for that. you should have bought ice to keep it cold |

Nope, go get a cooler, fill it with ice and store your food until the fridge is repaired. They are not responsible for your food as they didn't break the fridge.
If they turned the power off to the complex to do repairs and didn't inform you and your food spoiled then yes, they are responsible. |

They're not responsible. It would be the same way as if you were a home owner and your fridge went out you can't blame the person you got it from. The time of response doesn't matter either. They have important calls from other residents as well and its too bad your at the lower end of the list. Get bags of ice in the meantime fill a cooler to keep most of your items from spoiling. |

you are responisible
the apartment cant take credit unless the power doesn't work
other wise it's coming out of your wallet |

Go get some ice and keep your food from spoiling, and don't worry. The landlord will take care of it as fast as they can.
Afterall, things like this happen.
Keep cool! |

NO!! they are resposible to fix the unit as soon as possibe and that is it. It is not their fault it broke. There is no predicting when a fridge will go out unless you are a prfessional appliance person, and even they would have to make an educated guess. |
|

Landlord

The landlord is responsible for the fridge unless it is listed as personal property on your lease (I do that).
He has to pay to fix or replace the appliance.
He is not responsible for any of your property, including food.
You might try a claim with your renters insurance, but I do not think they cover food. The landlord certainly doesn't.
If you keep the freezer closed it will not start thawing for at leat 24 hours. |

That is what you have renters insurance for or should have.. If you called them at 9am and it just broke your food should not be thawed out by 4pm (be thankful they are replacing it in one day) we had a fridge go out and could not get one for an entire day and it was still good.. |

no you are not entitled and it will probably lead to more nonsense of what you might owe and being in default on your rent.
you need renter's insurance but i don't think renter's insurance covers that as item of coverage. |

I am no lawyer, but I would get those items into a cooler with ice right away. Just kidding, but I'm serious about the ice. Your contract with the apartment complex probably protects them from any damages from your refrigerator. You're not entitled to anything unless it's stated in the contract. You could keep most of your things on ice for that period of time without spoilage. I think the only thing you could ask for is some of the things in the freezer to be reimbursed. I bet they would even have another open unit with a freezer that they would allow you to take your things in the freezer to. |

I would at least try and make the apartment complex pay for the spoilage of your food, why not? It can't hurt to try. |

I went through the same situation twice and its your landlord fault as long as the breaker did not go because of your neglegance. if its because it honestly broke or is old and went then they need to give you money to restock your food.
If they say no contact your local land lord and tenant act and they can help you. worse case you can take them to small claims court, and make sure you take pictures of the food in both the fridge and freezer so you have proof of how much you had, also you need to make sure you can show phone reocrds that when you phoned and have record of when they show up to your house.
This way if you go to small claims, you can get probably more money and they pay you back for the court filing fees. |

i'm guessing it would be there fault. if the refrigerator belongs to the landlord then they're at fault. |

get ahold of an attorney right away. YOU HAVE A GOOD CASE HERE. I would suggest asking the landlords nicely to reimburse you (have receipts) for the food or you take it off the rent. If none of that flies with them.....call that attorney pronto! |

You will also discover that everything is to your deficit.
This is because every rule and every law that is intended to be fear, through a cosmic laws effects, it will always lead to a situations to which you happen to be at a disadvantage.
This is because of a cosmic order that is illaberatly arranged to be against you.
That is why, even though it seems to be someone else's responsibility; you will still be told that it is yours!!!!!
Hooo- hi- hoohhhh!!!!!! (donkey sound)
I am smacking my head into the wall! |
