E minor | PLEASE HELP ME! Social security? |
Okay, well I get a Social Security check every month because my mom passed away... (Sort of a long story) I live with my grandparents and my aunt lives next door. Im not old enough to cash my own check, so my aunt is like the "co-signer" or signer for it. IDK. But she is never there to give me the money, and she tells me what I can and cant buy, but the check says THAT THE MONEY IS MINE. So, my sister and I have made the agreement that my older sister is going to be cashing my checks for me instead of my aunt.
HOW DO WE GET MY SISTERS NAME ON THE CHECK INSTEAD OF MY AUNTS???? PLEASE HELP!! ITS GETTING OUT OF HAND!!!
Thanks in advance Additional Details My aunt IS NOT my legal guardian. My dad is |

Those checks are not for you to be hauling to the mall.
They are to support you. Feed you. Put a roof over your head. Save up to get you through college. All the things your mother would do with the money.
You need to leave things be, your sister is not a good idea at all. |

Go to a SS office and explain the situation to them. |

If you live with your grandparents they are the ones that should be receiving your check. They are raising you now that your mom is no longer around. Depending on how old you are, you should be getting an allowance, but the major part of the check goes to the person that is taking care of you. |

Can you have the check put electronically into your checking or your sisters checking account? I know social security prefers to do electronic deposits or mailed checks. You might want to ask on the web or call them directly and tell them you want a direct deposit. |

You may want to call the sociall security in your area. And let them know your situation. You has custody of you. Usually the person who has custody should be the one to recieve the check for you. Because you are a miner and to them...you are unable to make decisions for yourself. |

Well, do remember, the purpose of the check is NOT to put money in your pocket, it's to help pay for your care, feeding and education.
Figure out how much that is costing your grandparents, dad, and whoever else helps you. If you think that check covers all those expenses I think you are mistaken. The money is rightfully theirs. |

This is from the Social Security website:
"If there is someone you would like to have as your payee, you can tell a Social Security representative and we will consider your request."
http://www.socialsecurity.gov/payee/faqbene.htm
Contact them with your concerns to get the payee changed. |

I believe your aunt is you legal guardian. If that is the case you will have to get your sister named as your legal guardian. |

Your aunt is your Representative Payee. She receives the checks for you and has to account for the money every year to Social Security. It is her job to tell you what you may or may not buy. I would imagine she gives money to your grandparents for your care. You can go to Social Security and try to get your sister named as your Representative Payee. I'm not sure you'll have much success. You need to ask your aunt for a monthly allowance. I'm almost certain the money stops coming when you are 18 unless you are still in high school. The maximum age it is paid is 19 years and 2 months. |
