The FIRST floor
1) It's easy to get in and out while moving.
2) When hauling in groceries - it's very easy
3) Summer time - heat rises so it stays cool and less expensive running the aircondition
4) If you have a dog you have to walk - it's easy to get in and out especially when you have to walk the dog.
5) No one will get you - like I thought at first and now I love my place and I"m on the first floor.
6) I only have to worry about 1 person and that's the person above me but, she is quiet. If you are in the middle you will hear noise from all directions!
7) If there is a fire - easier to get out.
8) You don't have stairs to haul items up and down
9) If you have a patio - you only have room for what your patio holds. I can walk outside and be right on the lawn. I love it. You can lay out on the lawn.
10) It's easier to haul items to the pool and back
Good luck to you! |

Depends,
The ground floor is the safest as if you are broken into or there is a fire etc, you are able to evacuate via the windows. However as a result of this you are also more likely to be broken into.
On the energy saving side of things, heat rises and the higher the apartment the more heat you are getting (from flats below) for free therefore the cheaper your heating bill.
However consider trying to climb 4 sets of stairs after a heavy night of drinking / trying to transport sofas and wardrobes up four flights of stairs and any elderly relatives visitng.
IMO a ground floor flat is always the best option, but it is not suitable for everybody.

I'd personally chose the 3rd floor
1st / ground floor is more susceptible to break ins or trucks smashing through the windows - possibly :-P (not intending to scare you - just thinking and answering honestly).
And you may get the smell from the streets / people / businesses / cars / rain / drains filtering in though your windows
2nd - possibly the same but better
3rd - safer, cleaner, still easy to escape in case of a fire and the three flights of stairs if a good daily workout and more privacy from street level
:-)

I prefer to be up high....though when there's a bad storm it freaks me out a little. My sister had HORRIBLE experiences with spiders when she had a lower level apartment....so I say, the higher up, the better! Plus, you have a better view. It just sucks having to move furniture and a bunch of boxes up flights of stairs.
P.S. My last apartment was downstairs (no bug problems...we were way up hill)...but you could ALWAYS hear the people in the apartment above us. It always sounded like they fell down with big thumps! |

well, first floor is great because its easier to move in, easier to carry in a car load of groceries and if the stairs are outdoors, its better in the winter time. Also, heat rises, so you have a better chance of it being cool. top floor is great cause you have a better chance for a nice view and you dont have to worry about the noise of people above you. Also, you might have a really cute balcony which is fun for bbq's and a mini garden. Also, the stair-walking is great exercise!! Most of the time, you dont get to choose which floor you live on. Its a question of what's available. If you look around, you will have better chances of finding something you love. Good luck and congrats on getting an apartment |

The top floor is quieter, and also warmer, but if there is no lift, it is not so easy for getting furniture up to the top. You also have to bear in mind that if you are staying for a long time, would you want to climb all those stairs as an old person?
I think security wise, the top floor is safer as if anyone breaks in to the block, I feel it is unlikely they will walk past all the other flats to get to the top floor. There is a fire issue though. If you can't get out through the door, it's a hell of a drop from the window. |

Definitely the first floor would be easier. Remember, with the higher floors you have to move furniture up and down them... |

Burglars can hit the 1st floor the easiest but renters still want them because it is so easy to move the furniture in and out. Higher is safer. / |

I'd say probably the two top floors, that way you won't be bothered by people possible always walking by your door at all hours if you were on a bottom floor. |

I would say the best floor to live on would be the 1st if you can afford it. It is much easier moving in and dragging things in and out of the apt. Usually the first floor is more expensive but the electric bill from the air condition unit is alittle cheaper. If you can not get the 1st floor I would grab a 3rd floor. No one will be banging on your celling keeping you up at night. You will also gain alittle more privacy.
Have a good one!
Thanks, |

apartments like that are usually
1st floor handicap
2nd floor is safe and available to everyone
3rd floor lots of work to get groceries and moving furniture
4th floor is a great view, but be aware of fire hazards and tiredness from walking stairs... lol
my personal preference is the 3rd floor |

top floor is good if you have more than 1 lift in the block (we only have one and it breaks down too often!) good because you don't have noisy neighbours on top of you, you get some views and more sun. |

I always liked living on the top level. The bottom units usually experience more in the way of getting things stolen (easier access for the criminal) and you hear EVERY noise from those above you (including the flush and rushing water from the toilet).
Bottom floor units usually have more problems with bugs and rodents too. |

I prefer the top floor. I've lived in a few different places and situations. In my experience an end unit on the top floor is the best. You don't have to deal with people stomping around above you at all hours of the night and with an end unit there is also one less wall you share with a neighbor - less noise.
I live on the bottom floor in my current building and the guy on top of me literally stomps around at all hours of the day an night. 6am? stomp stomp stomp. 2pm? stomp stomp stomp. 3am? stomp stomp stomp!
The only thing that sucks about living on higher floors is moving in and out. Carrying your couch up 4 flights of stairs is not fun. |
