Perfect house but its in a bad location what would you do?
The house that my husband and I found is perfect!!! The only thing is its next to a paper mill...which you can imagine that the smell the mill gives off is horrible. Were stuck because the price is perfect and the house is perfect but its that dang paper mill. What would you do?

I've been near paper mills before. They are putrid. This isn't a condition that will go away. If you can stomach it all day, every day for the foreseeable future, then good luck to you in your purchase. However, I think I would pass on the house and look further.

I would not buy it. It might be hard to re-sell and the mill might affect the property value. You might get used to the smell, but any house guests probably wouldn't. Also, you might want to research the health effects.

location, location, location.

You can't change anything about the location. MOVE ON.

Well the first thing before you move would be to find a location you like living in!! Then worry about looking for a house in a certain area.

Keep looking. # 1 rule is Location, Location, Location

I'd walk.

There will be other perfect houses. And if this one's next to a paper mill, it's not "perfect" by any stretch of the imagination.

Personally I would keep looking but it is your choice. But you have to think about the long term. Would you like to stay in a house that is nice but is in a bad locationm that wakes you up during the night? Or makes your pet dog anxious? Or if you have young children wake them up in the middle of the night or scare them during the day? Or find a semi-good house that needs a bit fixing up in a lovely location you can raise a family and lowers your stress level? The house isn't much with a crappy location. You have to look at the whole not just the pretty part. Good luck though.

Why is the house perfect? Is it so unique that you have no chance of finding one in a better location? Can the house be moved?

Unless it truly is so unique it cannot be matched, I agree with other posters, I'd keep looking.

If it is that unique, I'd see about buying the house and moving it to a better location. Maybe the owners would like to sell the land for commercial value since it's so close to a large enterprise like the paper mill.

But I cannot imagine living in it where it is.

I'd hang out by the paper mill for a few afternoons and see what you really think of it. We were thinking of buying near an airport until we spent an afternoon in the area and decided that that wasn't want we wanted.

verandanielsen
WAIT! seriously, think about it, you can find a not-so-perfect house in a great area and MAKE it a perfect house later, but you cant change the paper mill....

I Buy And Sell Houses
The other responses are correct. Keep looking. The house isn't perfect; even you acknowledge it's in a bad location. And it's a bad location you can't do anything about.

I guess the price is perfect because the location sucks. I would hold out for something better, definitely.

If you have always wanted to own a rental house and this is all you can now afford, you might buy it with the thought of buying another and renting this one when you can afford to do so.

Otherwise, I'd definitely not buy it because it has a "fatal flaw" which is one you can't correct. You can't buy out or move the paper mill.
