Pervy Landlord?
My mates live in a house together. All girls and there are 5 of them. The landlord of the house is middle aged and he's really freaky. He goes to the house and snoops around and he leaves the girls notes on their pillows. This morning my mate woke up to find the landlord in her room. What authorities can get involved? This is serious and they are all scared of him now. Which is fair enough!
Additional Details
Great! thanks guys. Citizens Advice Bureu will be receiving a phone call shortly. Possibly with a follow up call to the Police!

The girls should tell him he is acting like a dirty old pevert and he had better stop or their brothers/mates will be round to do him.

Landlords must give you notice if they are to enter the property. they cannot just turn up. Go to the CAB to get more information on your rights and ways to go about it. put down your concerns in writing to him and mail the letter by registered post so you can prove that he has got it. You could also try popping into the police station and reporting what is happening.

Go straight to the Police for advise, if he is entering the girls rooms when they are in them who knows what else he could be capable of. Ask to speak to a female officer for advise and make sure that if he gets a caution that he cannot retaliate by kicking them out, a trip to the council offices on housing will help here.
Stop the dirty git before he gets too brave and puts one of the girls at serious risk!

Your best option would be to contact the police, it is illegal for the landlord to gain access to the property without giving prior notice.

In the US the Landlord is not permitted to enter the dwelling without first giving 24-48 hours notice and is only allowed in the unit to make repairs, perform routine maintenance or show the dwelling to a potential renter/buyer.

He CANNOT just walk in with a key here that is illegal, he cannot snoop that's against the law and considered an invasion of privacy, regardless of whether or not he owns the unit, while you are renting and living there he has no rights to enter for any other reason outside of maintenance. The notes on their pillow is wrong, what reason does he have to enter their bedrooms unless the maintenance work is being performed in there. He cannot evict you as long as you are paying rent timely and are good tenants then if you report him he cannot do anything to you. He can however, choose not to renew your lease at the end but that's it.

You should call CAB I believe that's what it is called in the UK and speak to them about what your legal rights are regarding this. What he's doing is wrong and you probably have the right to terminate your lease due to invasion of privacy, afraid for your safety etc.

Call and file a police report, non -emergency, and explain that he was in your roommates room while she was sleeping, tell the police that she feared for her life, she didn't know if he was going to attack her or rape her or what. This is serious, file complaints now to cover your behind, keep copies and be sure to get in contact with CAB to know your rights.

Good luck. Time to put an alarm system on the door, that'll scare the crap out of him.

The landlord has no right to enter the rooms as he pleases, for you pay your rent for the room and the only time the landlord is allowed in to the rooms is with the consent of the person who rent's it. for example to carry out repairs. I would report him to the police first and see what they can do to stop him, they might have a chat with him to scare him enough to stop doing what he is doing, this might bring some bad feelings when you do report him, but then he only has himself to blame for that, you might even have to find new accommodation because of it, you say there are five of you staying in this house, have you not thought of going to the estate agents and renting a flat between you ?, divide the rent 5 ways so that each person pays the same amount,
if you add the rent that you are paying already by 5 then this amount is the rent you should be looking for when you rent a flat or house from the estate agents, but don't forget that you will have electric/gas/water/council tax to pay on top of the rent, I think this would be far better then living in a house that has a landlord who goes around entering rooms when not invited. take care and good luck.

I'd say shoot the sucker, but I have a feeling you're not in the good ol' US of A. You might consider it anyway.

Extreme violence aside, you might:

(a) remind him of the laws pertaining landlord entry. I'm sure you have some there which prohibit his entry without sufficient notice. Tell him you're uncomfortable with his entry and you want it to stop.

(b) hire a couple of big burly bikers to lay in wait for him and smack him around a bit.

(c) change the locks

(d) leave a note for HIM telling him to stay the heck out

(e) film his antics to show to the police.

(e) move, which sounds like the best idea and one you'll eventually have to do anyway.

Tell them to tell his wife wot he is doing

This is absolutely outrageous - this is invasion on privacy

firebobby
This is voyeurism. You need to contact the police, but as someone has said , not by 999.
On a civil note , the landlord must give 24 hours notice that he wishes to visit the premises.

Have a word with him about this inappropriate behaviour. This landlord is abusing his rights as owner of the property. This is clearly an invasion of privacy.

If he does not stop, then get the authorities involved. Talk to the citizens advice bureau, the local council and the police. If you're university students, then speak to your student union. They can help too.

Is the house rented by an agent or only through the landlord? If there is an agent report him to them. If no agent - can they get someone to fix a chain on the door, so when they are all in they can lock it?
Leave him a letter saying he must give then 24 hrs notice before coming into the property, unless a repair is reported or you will report him to the police.
