Please help settle the score?
My husband and are are currently battling where we should relocate to. We currently live in NJ where the cost of living is way too high and we are ready to go! I've been researching Texas for months now....right outside of the Houston area like Spring or The Woodlands....I've researched the prices of homes out there, the cost of living and the job market and have concluded that it's the best place for my family to live. My husband on the other hand feels Georgia is the way to go Marietta or somewhere in the Atlanta area..well I gave my husband a challenge...I told him to do all the research on Ga that I've done on TX...so far he hasn't really come up with much..so I've done my own...and so far not really impressed...but I want unbiased opinions...Please help..thanks!
Additional Details
BTW..I just came back from Spring, TX yesterday because my friend lives out there and it is wonderful! I'm ready to go now! LOL...but my husband visited someone out in GA and he's ready to go...i suggested we visit TX and GA together so we could see for ourselves but he's set on Ga and I'm set on TX...help!

If you've been reading the economic news, you've seen that Texas ranks at the top of most lists for:

Pay
Jobs
Homes
Quality of Life
Education

Personally, I'm not in love with Texas. But if I had to make a move for reasons of employment, or better pay with a lower cost of living expense, etc., then Texas would certainly be at the top of the list.

Looking at the news, GA has a lot going for it, but is upside down when it comes to salaries. And home prices are running higher than average for most states. And hey, let's face it, life's better on this side of the Mississippi anyways.

I vote for Texas. Make sure you visit Sugarland just south of Houston. Also there are ports and you can take cruises from both Houston and Galveston. And Houston is an airport hub. You can fly non stop to many places. It has the best heart hospitals and a famous cancer treatment center. Lots going on. Good to invest in a home in a prosperous area. It is the US oil capital with many oil company headquarters. There any large cities like San Antonio which caters to the military. Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, Midland, and the Rio Grande Valley with over 500 species of birds and three major flyways. Wonderful state to explore for its history and natural beauty. Go to the library and look at Texas Highways magazine. It will show many places of interest. I like Georgia too. But if I had a choice, which I did ten years ago, I moved from Illinois to Texas for my retirement. Visit both. Look at homes. Don't be fooled by any area in decline. Texas is not in decline. Best wishes.

I live in Georgia and work in Marietta. It is a great area. There are some great schools and the cost of living isn't bad at all. The thing that I like best about the area is that is both close to Atlanta and the mountains. There are areas of cobb county where you would never know that you are 20 minutes from the city. The only negative is that traffic can be bad, but it isn't a problem most days and people over react to it. The housing market is pretty bad here, so you can purchase a house for a very good price. The weather is nice. I am originally from Pennsylvania where the sun hardly ever shines. It is must nicer here.

I have only visited Texas, so I can't say much about that.

This is why overblown egos in marriage are so bad. You are simply in a battle of wills where you both insist on a victor. Do you simply want to win or do you want a happy marriage?

It's good that you are both willing to start over in a new place. That's one stress eliminated.

Georgia is closer than Texas so why don't you rent an apartment there for a year and give it a shot. If it doesn't work you can move on to Texas.

You will obviously need to have a job wherever you go. Start applying online and have a solid job offer before you go. Once you start working you can start looking for a permanent home. The best job offer will determine whether you move to either current option or another place entirely.

I own homes in Fl, Tn, NJ, and California.

The cost of living equats to the local economy. Ga is a low pay state therefore the Homes are cheaper.

TX. is average and is according to location, Houston is a rough town in your not in the right area.

In short if you middle class in NJ then you'll be in any other state unless you work out of town As I do.

well i think that if he hasn't done the research than you shouldn't move there you should move to Texas especially if you've done it yourself and you've seen how bad it was
