The sound of a barking dog tends to keep burglars away, so there's actually an advantage to owning a dog, with regard to burglars. Most burglars don't want to mess with a dog because they can't control that situation very well.
In several years of doing burglary investigations, I only found one instance where a dog was messed with, during a burglary, and that was a high-end burglary where the burglars were going for jewels, safes and priceless artwork. They maced the dog...a little Yorkeshire Terrier. It only made the dog uncomfortable for awhile and didn't cause any lasting damage. |

Depends. What if the dog were a sissy. What if they ran depending on what type of dog, etc.
Hard to give an answer to something that might not happen |

Well, I'm not a robber so I can't say what robbers do when they find a dog.
Having a dog actually decreases your chances of getting robbed. Robbers know that the dogs will bark and draw attention to them, or the dog might bite the robber, so most robbers just move on to the next place that doesn't have a dog. |

Statistically, homes with a dog are less likely to get robbed. The dog causes to much of a ruckus for robbers who obviously do not want to attract attention. If your landlord allows get a pet!! They are great! |

No one really has any way of answering this for you. Would the robbers hurt your dog? Maybe. Depends on what kind of people they are. I don't think I've ever heard of any statistics on pets and home invasions. |

i dont think theyd hurt it unless its loud and/or tries to attack them |

are you kidding? for one, you're lucky you're allowed to have that dog. most landlords would rather say no pets than deal with the cost of cleaning up after when you've moved on.,
If you're really that concerned.. get renters insurance and cover the dog.
I guess if you're dog is really annoying, and a robber didn't want to get caught.. they may kill a dog. |

Well if they see it is a big dog they might get scared and run away. if they see it is a smaller dog they might break in but as long as your dog is trying not to attack them they will probably do no harm to it. |

It depends on the robber number one, But that can happen in a house too. If you want a dog, get a dog. Sometimes their barking helps keep robbers at bay. |

Well, according to the League of Theives, they are obligated to incapacitate the dog so as to keep it quiet, but not kill it.
HOW THE BLOODY HELL WOULD WE KNOW?!?!?! It depends on the robber, and frankly I don't think you'd have to worry about it that much unless you've been broken into in the past. |

maybe you should keep your dog confined just in case (like in one room in a puppy playpen) they usually won't come in if it sounds mean. (barking) I think I'd make sure I have great deadbolt locks and an alarm of some kind. |

Almost all break ins are by people the victim knows. The dog is likely to welcome them, as they know them as your "friend". Most people, no matter how dishonest, do NOT hurt animals. You should not be too worried, the dog is more likely to be stolen then hurt. |

The robber will be the one to get hurt and scared. That happened to me once and the dog hurt the robber and I heard the robber scream so I called the police and you must know what happened next.So the best thing to do is to get a dog.Get a bulldog. |

most likely they wouldn't do anything to your dog. Most robbers are looking for expensive jewelery and things, not a dog.. But, there isn't a great risk of a robber coming in. If you live in the city, just lock your doors, and close your windows. Also, try not to live on the lower floor. We live in a apartment and we live in the top floor so we have no risk. |

if you have a dog of decent size(not a poodle or chiwawa) that can at least intimidate the robbers than the robbers will more than likely leave in search of an easier target, after all they are trying to rob the house when you are not home normally meaning they don't want a confrontation
but sadly there is always the slightest chance...but rest easy i think if anything the presence of a dog would actually protect you. If a dog barks it makes noise and makes the burglers job harder...but if the dog bites it makes their job not worth it at all ...lol |

they wont hurt your dog....if he is pure breed most likely they will rob him too and then sell him |

aren't you more worried about the fact that you have a dog who did absolutely nothing to defend itself or it's household. dogs see their homes as their domain and as such they should protect their domains. 2nd, if a robber breaks in there isn't any real way to know whether they will hurt the dog or not. |

Generally, robbers are either there with willingness to injure/kill or without. If they plan to rob a place and they are set on killing whoever is there if they get in there way they will. If they are like most robbers, they won't harm the occupants, let alone a dog. If it is a boxer/pitbull and it attacks them and they have a gun... goodbye doggie... but if it a docile breed and it runs away, even if it barking at them, they won't go out of their way to harm it.
Don't know though, never pulled a B&E....
Goodluck though, honestly, unless you live in the ghetto you probably will not get robbed. |

If the dog isn't bothering them or getting in the way of what they are doing (stealing)...they shouldn't kill it- there has been many cases were people have gotten robbed while in there own house and the robbers dont kill the people...unless their a sick person who kills for fun (which there is people like that) i doubt they would. --- I live in a apartment and I keep my dog in a cage while im gone- you wouldnt even know he was there unless you found the cage. |

You really wouldn't know until it happened ( Hopefully not) but that's the reality. I read in the newspaper theother day here in NJ some thieves broke into a home and held a poodle for ransom $$ then later they found the dog. Here's the story if you don't believe me:

Rottweilers might be a good bet! If the neighborhood is dodgy, get 5 or 6 of them! |
