The reason I'm mad | Question about renting apartments? |
Ok, let's say I fill out an application to rent a place and I don't get a call from the landlord for 2 bussiness days, should I assume I wasn't chosen to take the place?, if so, does the landlord have to let me know I am not gonna get the place or is it assumed I will call to find out what's up?. |

Just because they have not called you does not mean you are not going to get the apartment. Some apartments have a slower system than others. It is possibly they have to send your application to another agency, do a credit check, etc. They could all take several days. I have experienced a variety with renting. I have been approved while in the office and rented on the spot. I have also had it take over a week to get approved. I had to follow up with them. Each place varies and has different employees. If you were not approved there is a possibility they won't contact you. If you have had credit problems in the past or negative rental history I suggest you talk about this with the landlord before filling out the application and explain the reasons why. This will give them a basis of you and you will have an easier time getting approved, plus you may not have to pay additional deposits if you can explain those issues (assuming you have them). I hope this was helpful and you are able to get your apartment! |

Call them to follow up, that is the only way you will know for sure. |

The old saying stands true: If you want to know you have to ask. Some don't call because they are lazy or don't want the confrontation of telling you no. Call them to find out for sure. Plus they may have lost your number or cannot read your writing, whatever so I would call. |

Never assume. Call and check your status. If you're still in the running, it'll put your mind at ease. If you aren't, you have nothing to lose by asking... |

Sometimes the landlords become too busy. Just call the person today and ask about your status but if they don't want you I doubt they will call you |

I agree that the landlord will probably not call to say you didn't get the apartment. However, don't count yourself out just yet. My mom was a landlord for a while and sometimes you gotta call to let them know you are interested still.
Unless you have lousy references and bad credit, let him/her know you want the apt. Kind of like a job application-they could have been leaning toward this other applicant, but then you called and made them think you were a forward and responsible person. Does this help at all?
Good luck! |

Landlords rarely call people they're not going to rent to. You could follow up with a call in a few days. |

There aren't any set rules. Certainly no laws. If you want to know what's going on, you'll have to call. Some people just don't get back to every applicant. |

Did they tell you how long it would take? Sometimes they can take up to a week to approve. I'd wait at least another three days before calling and asking. |

I manage an apartment community and there are times when we do get busy. Don't give up hope, there may be a pending response from your references etc. You have every right to place a follow up call. If you have been denied the landlord should provide you with a letter w/reason of denial and the phone number of the credit agency providing the info. Good Luck! |
