What can you do about rats? Ive asked management over and over to take care of the problem and they have done nothing. The rats are in the trees around my balcony and rumage threw my things on the patio. They come out of walls thru the gaps around the pipes. What are my rights as a renter in LA California? first give the land owner an oral warning of the rats~then give them a written warning.(should be first) then check on line to see what Rights u have has a renter ~every state is different~ once u get all ur ducks in a row u can hire an exterminator to extricate the rats...but make sure u have all ur documentation.dates time etc. then give the bill to the land owner to be deducted from ur bill. |

Catch as many rats as you can,and then go to you land lords house and turn the rats a lose in his house.You will then get some kind of response from the land lord.But not the one you wanted. |

you need to contact your local housing authority, the health department for assitance and the local city authorities. send a certified letter stating your complaint to management and the owners of the complex you live in. if they won't tell you, who owns the complex. then go to county tax office and look up the property it should have the owners |

If you don't have any pets, put rat traps out on your balcony with peanut butter on them. Sometimes the only way to get things done is to do it yourself. Good luck! |

Since the rats are not actually in the building, response to your complaints may be slow, but try this:
Send your landlord a letter complaining about the rats, specify the length of time this has been going on, etc. and that you plan to contact the health department if the situation is not rectified; save a copy for your files.
If he doesn't respond, call the health department (they may direct you to animal control, depending on how things work in your city).
Hopefully, the health dept. will take care of the problem, one way or another.
In the meantime, I would recommend removing the things from your patio that the rats like, food or potential nesting materials, and putting down some poison where only the rats can get to it (don't want to take out any pets by mistake). Trim back the trees if you can, to limit their access to your building.
