Hello!!! That really depends on the area in which you live, but in general, it is a buyer's market . . . and it's a slow market at that.

What part of Dallas are you referring to?? Dwindling inventories (referring to HMMMMM's answers above mine) . . . Not!

I Sell RE in New Mexico and here it is most Def. a Sellers market as the state is bordered by AZ, CO and close to CA. However we get buyers from all over; primarily from states that are becoming too crowded. Also our property taxes are low, and the price of land and homes keeps increasing at a healthy growth rate. Florida, as I understand, has topped out over its peak (along with some areas of AZ, and CA) ; so it most likely has reverted to a Buyers market in some areas, when infact two years ago we were getting phone calls that Sellers from Florida had to do 1031 exchanges on 300 million dollars for profit made on condos. Customers from Virginia have told me that too many people from NY are moving in to their state, so I assume that in Virginia, NJ and PN that the markets are hot right now if the supply is low. I have dealt with many buyers from Ohio, as well, for some reason, and logically thinking that it is a good time to sell in Ohio. I saw a map that showed that most of the population of the US is in the Eastern half; many of the Baby Boomers are looking for quiet places to retire; logically a large portion of the population may be trickling over toward the Western half of the US where you will find the most healthy market areas at this time. I am unaware of the market in many states, however I find it fascinating to learn what they are experiencing in their RE markets compared to the rest of the country. Maybe the rural areas in a state are the best way to determine the health of different markets www.unitedcountry.com. There is no single Real Estate market. It's a series of local market.

In Tampa we are in a buyer's market with more than six months of inventory, in Dallas it is shifting to a seller's market with dwindling inventories.

KathyS
I can tell you where I am that's it is NOT a seller's market. The inventory is high and nobody can seem to sell for the prices their homes are worth.

I suggest visiting http://www.realtytimes.com and look up your local market and see what the agents are saying.

It all depends on you area but this time of year is typically a buyers market. If you are buying now is the time as inventory is high and buyers are few and far between in almost every market.

Buyers now, because of the season and the amount of homes for sale, its definitely a buyers market.
