Really need your help on buying a house.......?
My offer on a house has just been accepted for £91,500. Was orginally on market for £105,000 in Jan this year then was reduced to offers over £100,000. I have paid for Surveyor and Valuers fees and they should hopefully be in this week. People well my partners sister has said that we are stupid and we are in negative equatiy straight away. We are not buying it to sell we are buying it to live on for atleast 8 years. People have said it's a buyers market then others have said wait until they come down further. Who is going to sell their house in the current market unless they really need too? The only really cheap houses i have seen have been ex council on awful estates, such as the one im living in now. Please advise as this is causing alot of tension and is making me feel sick with worry. Thank you....... x x x x

Your thinking is quite correct - you are buying a house for it to be your home for several years. Generally, property prices trend upwards and so if you buy in a reasonable area in the first place, the value of your property has a good chance of increasing.

Negative equity is typically a moot point as negative equity only has value when you come to sell. Most people do not need to sell when prices are dropping. It's a reasonable assumption that you will not need to sell your property when prices are falling. If you do and you have already stayed in your home for several years, it's reasonable to assume you have paid off a portion of your mortgage. If so, it'll be harder to go into negative equity. After all, you will only ever be in negative equity if you sell your home for less than the mortgage you owe.

you found something you like at the price you are happy with. so be happy and don't listen to anyone. with the bailout the property values will start increasing. that is my opinion. good luck

I would say dont listen to your partners sister... people in this business like to act as "know-it-alls" when they are just trying to sound intelligent. GO FOR IT. Its absolutly the time to buy I am in the business and all my friends and family are buying... good luck!!!!!

Get the house you want. Buy while the market is low and enjoy.

I think that you are doing the right thing - stop worrying. I am trying to sell my house at the moment but, as I am in no hurry, I am not reducing it too much.
Property prices will increase within eight years so it is still the best investment. It gives you somewhere nice to live, anyway.
Enjoy.

Don't listen to her, you liked it and bought it to live in it for a few a few years.

I think you have got a bargain and good luck to you, but what people are trying to say is you have got a morgage fo 91,500 and in a couple of years it might be worth less,so say in 8 years your house is only worth 85,000 you are going to lose out but it could be worth 100,000 in 8 years so you have to take a chance ,but i can;t tell you how things are going to be in the future and you don;t know so you should just go for it.
