If you signed a ONE YEAR LEASE THERE IS A TERMINATION DATE. A one year lease does not go on and on for ever.
After the year is up you are a month to month tenant. That means that you can give a thirty day notice and move on with your life.
When you sign a lease they can not increase your rent until the end of the lease. Most owner want to keep good tenants so they do not automatically increase the rent just because they can.
When I was an apartment manager the owner did not increase the rents each year. When major improvement were made to the building or grounds, the cost was passed on to the tenants. |

Hi love..
Have not seen you in a while .... much love to you ... re your lease ...it all depends on the fine print in the original lease and what it says about automatic extensions and going month to month .... you need to dig out the old lease and read it over carefully if it is not clear you can email me a copy and I can check it out ......obviously the land lord is pretty laid back and not concerned which tells me that the old lease addresses this very thing that you are doing .......hugs ..talk with you later |

You are considered a month to month tenant. Your increases are legal with proper notice. The terms and conditions of your original lease remain in effect. |

I'd check out the original lease small print, seems to vary a lot in different places. Here,it would be null and void, and you'd be a free agent with a months notice. |

You're free...
But then again...
You always were...
(I just moved out in the middle of a 3 year lease, but I called them up and told them that Hurricane Ike negated the contract by screwing up my apartment royally with water damage...they didn't argue the point...it's hard to come down hard on a Hurricane victim...hee hee...
But that had nothing to do with why I moved out...cha! |

The fine print in the lease usually read somewhat like this ..... 'after period of one year, the terms of the rental agreement will revert to the terms of a month to month lease, including all responsibilities and etc etc etc.... of the tenant and landlord....' |

i think u r still covered with the first rent deed. ur rent must increase per year according to law as here in india its 10% per annum. but u must ask them to renew the deed every year. as in india if u dont renew the deed (its moreover obligation of land lord to renew) its void and null. and teneant is free to act |

Your original lease is ancient history. By law, you are a month to month tenant with the rights and responsibilites that entails. The rent can be raised with 30 day notice. You may leave with 30 day notice You may be asked to leave with 30 day notice. Read the full details at the Public Library.. |

If you didn't sign a new lease you are now considered a Month to Month Tenant. Give 30 days notice if you wish to move. |

In some localities the rent increase notice plus you not giving 30 day notice of moving means the original lease is in effect for one more year. The only change being the increase in rent. This is how it was done in New Jersey. |

Do a Yahoo search! Put in, renter's rights lease, & see if you can find your rights for your state! Good luck! |

A rent increase usually means they need to sign a new lease. UNLESS in your lease it states that they may raise the rent at any given time! |

I would ask a lawyer, but it sounds like because you didnt sign another lease, that your not bound by the first lease, I think your a free agent, I would get more info from a lawyer, good luck. |
