My roommate is trying to pull a fast one over on me. The condo is only in my name and he doesnt have a security deposit. I'm moving and he owe's me rent, utilities and half the steam cleaning almost $1000 total. Today he tried to ignore me knocking on his door and then tried the tough guy act when he finally answered it. I stopped that in a hurry but now he's giving me some lame excuse work took 1 1/2 pay checks from him to replace some handheld scanner they claimed he broke and he wont be able to pay me what he owes till 1-2 weeks (which is when i'll be gone). I looked at his scanner he said had to be replaced after he left and its still the old one he had before. Its obvious he's trying to leave without paying so what can i legally do? I'm tempted to swipe some of his stuff to cover the costs. Any Ideas?
