coconut | Should I feel embarrassed? |
Me and my husband just bought a house for 250K. I am in the military and he is a gov employee. This is a very high end house for what military people, more specifically the people I work with see people in my career field buying. This guy I work with makes me feel so stupid because he's a hater basically. We can afford the payments and I think it's a good investment for the future, and no we will not be moving away from this area for another 5-7 years at least but probably longer. How should I handle the negative reactions of people when they see how much money we have spent on our home. I know its really none of there business but sometimes the haters make me feel kind of dumb. |

You have made a great decision. You can't lose. People may just be jealous of your great real estate decision and that's a shame for them. You are within your budget, from what you say, and you certainly will have more value to the place in seven years or whenever you may choose to move.
The way I would recommend handling these reactions, is to disregard them the first time and politely tell the person "I can understand your point, yet we can afford this and want our friends and ourselves to enjoy this beautiful home." If they complain a second time, be polite and never invite them into your home again until they have apologized for being rude to you in your own home. You did nothing to them to warrant that type of rudeness.
Congratulations on your beautiful new home...be proud!
You made a GREAT decision. |

You should not be embarrassed that you bought a good home for a cheap price. Many people would like to buy a house for less, especially in today's market!!! |

It is none of their damn business.
Don't EVER invite them over to your fabulous house.
The haters are the dumb ones. Jealousy has them hating. |

It's a bit rich for people to be passing judgement on what you do with your money. Spending it on a nice home is the most sensible thing to do. Do you pass judgement on what your colleagues spend their money on? Are you being over-sensitive here, maybe. Try and put what others may be thinking out of your mind and enjoy your lovely home. |

tell him to mind his own business, hes just jealous that you have a nicer house.
or to pi$$ him off, tell him you already have an offer of 475,000 on the house WHENEVER you decide to sell it.
and then innocently say, i guess that was a very smart investment im glad I talked my husband into it. then smirk and walk away swinging what the idiot hater will NEVER get to have even in his dreams.
hehehehe
sorry, im evil. |

As long as you can afford the house and not starve then you shouldn't feel embrassed. Why let what other people say or do bother you. |

Forget those haters. If you can afford it, then enjoy it and be happy. He's probably hatin b/c he can't afford one. Take the negativity and jealousy as a compliment to you actually doing what mostly every American dreams of doing: Buying a House. |

I've found that alot of people, rather than be happy for someone, will react with jealousy instead. Don't allow the guy at work to make you feel bad about anything! What you and your husband have or don't have is your business.
You have to ask yourself though, how do your co-workers know how much money you and your husband have spent on your home? I know you may be proud of your home, but it really is best to not share alot of personal information at work. |

Girl hold your head up high..... God blessed you to buy a home..... and at that price.... I just bought a new home.... and it was almost $200,000 more than yours! Obviously the haters are not in your situation and are just jealous because while you have a fabulous backyard... they are enjoying the trailer park! Just smile and do your job..... you know that same job that enabled you to buy a house! |

My husband is also in the military (also a few more people on my family) and I know how much you can make. I think there is no way that you feel embarrassed for what you have accomplished. It is your money and if you have known how to manage it you should not feel embarrassed. I am a psychologist and you don't have to be one to know that these people are envious of you. Don't let people like that in your life and don't give them the satisfaction of being mortified of what they are saying. |

let them stew, it is your house, if they dont like it, tough titty on them. good luck
why should you feel dumb ? dont let them get you down |

I wouldn't care what people think. You said you can afford it, you both agree this is what you want.
It's really that they're envious, that's all.
Enjoy it while you can ! |

dont care about people this is your own life and you dont have to be embarrassed |

Nope, you are in the right here. People I work with are the same way. My wife and I both work and most of the people I work with are home schoolers so only one parent works, thus we have twice the income. When they visit they are all amazed at the size of the house.
Don't worry about it, don't bring it up, and soon it will all be forgotten. |
