I read in a magazine while at my dentist that there are bidding wars for homes in California and Florida, with people camping out in lines for 2 or 3 days just for the opportunity to be able to put down a deposit on a new home !!!

If there is that much demand, should I just quick my job here in Canada and rush down there and try to start building homes?
I think that I can learn about building pretty fast.

You are advised to check the date on the magazine you read. That was the case four years ago, but certainly NOT now. The US, particularly California and a few other markets, have a glut of unsold homes on the market.
You are advised to read more current articles on the situation with the United States real estate market. |

Well I am not from Canada but I can give opinion on the US housing market. You wonder why there are people waiting on these houses? It is because banks and such have forclosed on the owners and now are autioning them off. The reason new house building is on the rise is due to the fact that it is getting cheaper to build your own than bye. Example. In my small town there are houses that five years ago would have struggled to sell for 50 thousand dollars and now people are asking 100K for those and selling them for an average of 90K. It is pretty bad and I don't see a stop to this pattern. The housing market is setting itself up for a big let down because there are going to be alot of vacant houses.
It would be ok to get into the business but watch the market because that could be a tell tell sign for lay offs.

Not sure if you want to quit your job. Yet, it maybe a good time to either purchase land that has gone into default. Purchase Bank Owned Properties for future investment.
After 5 years when the economy has gone up you can sell and than retire early.

It's easy to be an order taker, but to be able to sell is a whole different thing.I have been in the business for about 3 years and it is pretty cut throat. I would do my D&D first. Also, if you don't sell right away you could be out of a job. So, just be careful. Otherwise I love it. |

You should check the dates on the stuff you read; that article was probably from back at the height of the housing bubble.
You're in luck! The bubble burst and builders are going broke. It's a good thing it happened before you went down to the US. |
