Does sound kinda strange...But I would say it should be fine as long as her "friend" has the proper paperwork for documentation of the final walk-through. I still don't like it though. |

Please make sure you take pictures and when you do the walk thru make a notes of everything have the neighbor sign the paper also make sure the neighbor signs for the keys |

have the neighbor sign a paper that she has received the key and that she sees no damage to the house. |

I would insist on being present for the final inspection. If she refuses to let you be there, take pictures of every room and everything that belongs to the landlord before you go. Do not accept deductions that you do not agree with. If you have to take her to small claims to get your money back, it will be up to her to prove damages, and you have the pictures to back you up.
If you don't turn in the key to her friend, she could claim that you were not moved out or that she had to change the locks and charge you fees for either thing. Have the neighbor sign and date a statement that you turned in the key. |

Get a signed receipt for the keys, noting date and time delivered. Have photographs (Showing date & time taken) of the interior of the apartment, showing areas such as kitchen and the appliances therein, all floors, walls, bathroom, showing the inside of the tub/shower stall, any areas that might result in potential claims against you or your damage deposit. |

Take some photo's of house before you leave, preferably with a camera that has dates and time on it. Get neighbour to sign for the key and what time you handed it over.
Its always handy to have proof, just in case. |

That sounds perfectly OK.
Your landlord doesn't live close by and she is asking you to give the keys to a trusted friend.
Once your landlord has the chance to check out the status of your apartment, she must give you back your security deposit if everything checks out ok.
If you are feeling a bit unsettled, then take some pictures of your apartment to show the condition that you left it in just in case there are any disputes from your landlord. |

In any state the landlord has 30 days to return your deposit. Before you turn in the keys so that walk through and get a signed statement from her as to what she sees. I'd also take as may pictures as you can so you can prove what it looked like when you left. Get a receipt for the returned keys as well. |

I would hope you took pictures before you moved in and as you were moving out the old saying a picture is worth a thousand words that the sure way to get your deposit back I see no problem in giving the keys to her friend (we tell our tenants to take pictures when the move in . we also inspect the property together so were on the same page on any problems that do exist) |

I don't like the sound of that either. You're still protected by law, but just to be sure I'd get it in writing. Or consult an attorney. |

I agree with those that state that you should take pictures. Also have the friend sign a statement that the walk through showed no more than normal wear and tear to the property. Also add that the friend has received the key to the property. Sign and date it, make a copy for your landlord, her friend and yourself...and off you go! |

Have the Neighbor do the inspection while you are in the house. Get a signed note listing any problems. Mail the key by Registered Mail to the landlord from you new location. |

i would give give the key back to her friend, as long as u trust your landlord, i think you should be alright, if your landlord is kinda sketchy I'd ask her a little more about her friend to make sure everything will be alright. |

you made a mistake when you didn't live up the security. now you'd better do what she wants. if you want to have a key, make a copy at the hardware store. it is less than a dollar |
