Should I go, or should I stay?
My appartment building was sold, new owners promised all kinds of improvments. After a few upgrades were done they, told some tenants their lease was not being renewed.
My lease expires in Dec. and they only offered me a 3 month entension, I want to move, should I pay the rent or use that money for my deposit?

Sounds like you don't have much of a choice.
Basically they have already told you that you need to move by March.
The question is do not pay the rent and save it for a deposit on a new place, or, do you pay the rent.
I can't advocate doing the wrong thing, so I would suggest you talk with the landlord and ask for additional time so that you can save more money to make the move.
Good Luck!

go.

If you leave the apartment in good shape, you will get your original deposit back anyway. They could take you to court to get the rent if you don't pay it. Start looking now and if you find something give your 30 day notice and leave your forwarding address so they can mail your deposit to you. Do the right thing. If roles were reversed, you would want someone else to do the right thing.

Seems you have three months to save up for your next deposit at another place. Your credit check should go thru ok if you continue to pay your current landlord the rent on time. If you decide to cheat him out of his rent, it will catch up to you eventually.

Usually, as it is with this case, doing the right thing for others ends up being doing the right thing for yourself too. Keep your credit shining. I expect you'll want to buy a place someday.

It's up to you, but if you move you better use your deposit than to pay them...

If I stay there could be trouble....

If I go it could be double...

I say if you have another place lined up, use it for your deposit.

You could also report them to whatever gov't office deals with rental apts, you may have a legal leg to stand on and be able to stay without having a rent increase (which is probably why they are getting rid of all the old tenants...) If this is the case be sure to tell that cute tennant on the next floor! He/she 'll appreciate it and who knows you could end up sharing an apt! ; )

Good luck!

The Count
A 3 month extension is asking for trouble.

I'd get out, they setting up the scene for a large rent increase.

You better go. If you do, you must use your deposit because it is meant to be used. Deposits are for security for the owner that once you haven't paid a recent rent, then they will deduct it from your deposit. But if you're leaving the place you should use the deposit you have made. some owners allow you to refund it too.
