Should I live at home or with my friend in an apartment?
If I am planning on getting married in a year or more, should I live with my parents (saving money, but commuting to school and not as involved at school) or live with my friend in an apartment close to school (not saving money, but independant and involved in school)?

This is your last opportunity to experience being on your own. I think you should go for it. It will feel good to be self-sufficient and you can have some wonderful memories later on in life.

Going out on your own is pretty tough, but then you learn how to balance a independent daily life. Being independent during these times, try not to spend too much and save as much as you can. Study hard and love what you do.

Part of being in college is experiencing social aspects of college and if you are planning on marrying soon, you should experience now, before you have more obligations. Experiencing college shouldnt be all about money, live it up, its your last 4 years of immaturity, before you start your "real" job and you start paying back your loans. If you can financially handle it, I would whole heartedly recommend you live with your friends close to school (but visit your parents often too)!

If I were you I would stay at home with your parents, not just to save money but because if I had a daughter that was getting married I wouldn't want to risk what could happen if she moved out and was tempted at drinking parties and stuff like that.

On the other hand, if you think you can handle it and not be led astray then you might want to gain some experience with paying bills and having to share a place with someone else. What does your fiance have to say about it?

The best thing is to save money while you can. Even if it means still living with your parents. Your future wife will like that fact that you know how to save money and hope that it will continue in the marriage.

Tough question. First, it depends on you as an individual. Personally, I would think that living with your friend would give you a small idea of what married life will be like. You will be able to see how two different people interact and can get on each others nerves at times. Also how they can have lots of fun at times. Doesn't matter if you are the same gender. (your friend and yourself) And you will also always wonder after you get married, how you would have liked to live away from "home" for a while. So living with your friend will help you to know what it is like.

You should live at home

if you can be dilligent (not spend money), and get a good deal on rent, in a place reallly close to school (no need to drive), I'd say move in with your friend. So you can still save for your wedding.
But if you must have a car, you might as well live with your parents. and drive to school, either way, rent or car insurance/maintenance will balance out.

You have to decide which is more important. Saving money or being at all the college parties.

Just as marriages take a lot of planning and being a grown up, so does saving. A little sacrafice of your freedom now will put you way ahead of the game in the long run and have that much more financial freedom later and believe me, financial freedom is so much more important!

Maybe you can use the time to see how your parents work out their finances (if they are the type of parents to learn from).

Good luck :)

If you can, live on your own, especially if you've never done it. Coz you're gonna miss it!
