Angels | Should I move? |
I am fed up with the way my landlord talks to me. I am moving. The rent here is cheep. I have a one bedroom for $750/mo- which is cheep in New York. I think she has a screw loose and I dont feel comfortable. Its just that I just moved here 7 months ago. I just dont want to move again. Its so much work. The landlord before this I moved before that because they came into my apartment w/o my permission. Its just so much moving but its hard to find a decent landlord that respects me. Should I move?

I was looking at some of your other questions and your profile. It seems that you are having a lot of problems, and some of them are your own making.
You caused hundreds of dollars of damage to the plumbing, like $400 worth, and she yelled at you. You couldn't have possibly been expecting a bouquet and a card for that, lol. What did you think she was going to do?
You also said that she asks you inappropriate questions about your job and other stuff. Fine. Just because she asks doesn't mean you have to answer. You can remain silent, change the subject, give an answer that has nothing to do with the question, etc... If she starts up, all you have to do is say "Hi! Nice shoes! Gotta run! Bye!". That way you are being nice, not avoiding her but you also aren't letting her put you on the spot either.
Your profile says you are "sensitive" first and foremost. As a native NYC gal, I have this advice for you: Get over it. Now. Seriously. Ultra-sensitive people are miserable in this part of the country.
You want all this "respect" from her. If you want a landlord who plays kissyface with you and your feelings, you are going to have to move to a luxury building and pay thousands more than you are currently paying.
You have a $750 apartment in the most expensive part of the country through your friends aunt. You are the recipient of a favor here. Recognize that fact. You really aren't in a position to be making demands. If you don't want to put up with whatever crap comes with this favor, then you have every right to move. |

Find out why your landlord talks like that. Is it because the landlord is worried about the maintenance of the property/receipt of rent on time etc? or is it because the landlord enjoys harassing the tenants? If it is the 2nd one, get out in a legally valid manner. If it is the first, talk directly to the landlord to dispel the misunderstanding |

many things unknown......what is the cost of breaking the lease? What is the price of an alternative apartment? Can you afford these things?
As to the landlord.....read your lease as to your rights and her rights. There is probably nothing in the lease that says you even have to talk to her. Leave her alone, ignore her. There are people in this world that want to be miserable and find fault in everyone. You focus on YOU. |

Well, I am from Texas and my friend moved to New York for a few years. She said at first she thought everyone there was rude, but then she realized it's just how they talk. Their not as in tune to using sensitive words with people as some other states might be. Is it possible the things she is saying to you just "sounds" rude? Ask her if you are unsure? Say, "Are you trying to be rude to me, or is this just the way you talk to people". Don't let her disrespect you though. |

I would move. You pay your landlord with your hard earned money and you should not take any garbage from anyone. As a native New Yorker it is definetly rough; you should look into renting a place where your landlord does not live such as an apartment complex. You will pay more though. |

Try to talk to your land lord. Find out what are his needs . Try to extend a helping hand if you can. Changing the place should be the last option. |
