Our furnace won't stay lit, so I called him to repair it this afternoon. He said it's the thermo-couple (sp.); it would take him 20 minutes to fix it, but he can't get to it until tomorrow because his wife was getting dinner ready.
My babby and I are freezing, and it'll be even colder in the morning. Since I'm placing all the blame on my landlord, would I be wrong to show up on his doorstep and ask that I sleep with him so I can stay warm tonight?

Not only should you go over there, but you should put on your finest muu-muu and your best slippers! Do you have a strapless muu-muu that you can wear with a bra that has big straps? Definitely put your hair in curlers, don't shave your pits and smoke some really cheap cigarettes. Use your bra as a purse.

you can legally break lease since he is not keeping up with his side of the bargain(in the lease it says,or at least implies that everything in the house worked before you got there,and anything that breaks he has to fix,by law.aaand he's not doing that so leave,and find a better place to live)
if he threatens to sue you for breaking lease, laugh and say bring it on! because the lease is null and void if he's not keeping up to his side..you'll get more moneys if he sues you lol. |

If you mean have sex with him, absolutely not. If you mean going over to his house and telling him that it is too cold for you and your child to sleep there that night, than I don't think that is neccesarry either. What is illegal in the situation, is that he is not unable to fix the problem, but a warm dinner is more important than your warmth. As a landlord he is responsible for maintaining the proporty and all the the stuff in it, and the furnace falls under that catagory. You could call him and tell him that you will be calling a repair man who will fix it tonight and he can pay the bill. look up renters rights for your area. good luck. |
