I believe that they use this information to check your credit report. It verifies that you are who you say you are. To make sure that you aren't trying to use someone else's identity. |

Call the management co, and ask why they NEED it.
Some of those forms were created in the 90's, and they still ask for SS# and such.
You could just leave it blank, and see if they asks..... |

They ask that due to security reasons. They run your credit report and credit bureaus ask the same thing. Just like they will ask for your social security number ,as well as proof of income , and previous rental history. They will want to know where you work and sometimes ( who will be living with you , if you will have pets and or children.) They as many questions that make us nervous due to the crime but rest assured it is a normal practice . It is up to you if you wish to provide the information. |

There are several reasons why they ask for things like that.. for instance if they are doing a credit check they might need that to identify you as the person you are.. most of us have similar names like Smith, Jones and Johnson but our Mom's maiden name is usually something completely different. |

Most forms that I have seen have asked for the maiden name, so If I were you I wouldn't worry about it, but I would rather be safe than sorry. |

A lot of answers. When a credit check is ran, along with a background check, a 3rd party is used to check your background, and they list family members by last name. It gives them a sense of security knowing you have relatives, or not, but it gives them a sense of who your are and where you come from. It's easier to check an adults background due to past established credit/bad credit. It tells me you're young and don't have a lot of credit history. You're never denied for the true reason if you don't get the place. Good luck. It's best to tell the truth and play the game according to their rules. For now. |
