ok i am having this dilemma im 22 almost 23 and ive been married for almost 3 years, i have a house in yuma, az and my wife has a restaurant that has been running for about 3 or 4 months.
her restaurant is co owned by her parents and her. im unemployed due to my arthritis which was caused by my military service. so i get 1333 a month tax free. i used to do construction in military and i want to go to another city, to go to UTI on Vocational Rehab which help me find a job that i can do and like it. they pay me a extra 750 or so on top of all supplies for housing.
while in another city i want to start flipping a cheap house the mortgage would only be like 400 a month plus utility's. and then i might want to move there and retire, for the most part.
but my wife is so wrapped up in her restaurant she is so stubborn she wont move or support me in any way. she said i need to find a "happy medium" what should i do? her restaurant is barley breaking even.

It sounds like both of you have a lot going on at the same time. One thing I do know is that businesses mostly lose money the first year. She is breaking even at only 4 months which is better than most business, especially in these uncertain times. You are trying to do a totally different thing that may or may not work. I think that although both of you are doing very individualized businesses, since she is already well on her way, you may want to wait for about 8 months to a year and see how the business goes. Besides, Real estate is in a rut right now, in about a year it may be much better. |

Sounds like you are already retired. Support your wife. She seems to be the only one trying to keep a real job. If you have arthritis how much flipping are you really going to be able to do? You don't have enough income to survive flipping a house and it failing. |

If you think that you can make $100K by doing carpet and paint...you've been watching too many episodes of HGTV.
This is NOT the time to be "new" in house flipping, especially when you need money and you clearly have no clue of how the business works.

Now is not the time to be flipping houses, the reason they are so cheap is no one can buy them, in addition if you are doing the work then you really are not disabled now are you? What happens when you get caught? Thats right you won't and that is what they all say. You really need to read more about the economy and what is happening instead of seeing only the one part |

Flipping is not as lucrative as it once was since the bubble broke - don't believe the infomercials on TV. Just slapping a coat of paint on a beat-up house and re-selling it isn't the way to riches anymore.
I'd go get the free training and bring it back to your current city to get work. |

So what makes you think that the Crappy economy that's affecting her restaurant sales isn't going to affect your real estate fiasco. There are plenty of schools and vocational rehap places that will help you in your area I'm sure. Why not help out at the restaurant? That way they can get rid of some of that labor, make more of a profit and ultimately grow despite the downturn in the economy. You just need to get out of the house it sounds like. Be a man and support your wife, not the other way around. |

this is an unfortunate situation because you both are so young and finding your calling and trying to est. yourselves. if she can't find a happy medium for you how can you do that for her? where is your future where you are? your paths might have to diverge but don't give up on your marriage and try everything even if you need some advice and guidance from someone else. it seems like her reseraunt is VERY new and it would be a disappointment to have to leave not knowing if it could have succeeded, but then again it would be easier to before the ball starts rolling with it. dont hold back your own dreams though, you deserve those too
keep bringing it up because you two really need to talk through this, until it is resolved, maybe it hasn't sunk in how important this situation is to you |
