Your landlord most likely wont let you pay that far in advance. Its much better to pay month to month, that way the landlord doesn't have to keep records of your overpayment, it lessens the confusion. You are locked into a certain amount of time for a lease, so I would think that if you pay for it ahead of time and something happens, the landlord would still be entitled to that money and would keep it.

OK there are a lot of wrong answers here.

If your landlord will allow it , then go for it. Just make sure you get a receipt for the amount paid and what months that is to cover. This is a big pain in the butt for landlords to keep track of so some will not allow it.

There should be no fear of losing your money like others are saying. If you move out, even if you are breaking a lease, then any prepaid rent must be returned BY LAW. If they did not return any overage to you, then you could sue them for it. This is why it is very important to get that receipt I mentioned.

I would only do it if the landlord gives you some sort of discount. Otherwise, your money is sitting in this account collecting interest when it could be sitting in YOUR account earning interest.

If you can pay it, then yea.

I'm not sure if the landlord can keep the money or not. Probably if you have a year lease or if you end up owing him money for damage or something. I just pay three months at a time. If you have a hard time keeping track of money, open a seperate checking account and put your rent money in there.

i would do it cuz the lease it for 6 months for the price you pay

Depends. If your landlord allows it and you have an issue that would make it better for you to pay ahead of time then yes. But know the policy of the lanlord before you do this. Inquire if you will be given a refund if some unforeseen ocurrence happens where you would need to use that money or if you should need to leave the rental agreement before its end. Also, know the policy if you should have to break your rental agreement. The more you know the better you can make an informed decision.

i'm no expert, but i'd say no.What if something happens and you need the money? You could use the money to invest and find ways to get rich, not pay off half a year of rent in one day.I'd say just pay your rent on time, not too late and not too early.

I hate contracts and being locked in. They are right, no more than 3 months. You never know what will happen and no one likes to be locked in. Be free man, beeee freeee!

All Of The Good Names Were Taken
if u plan on staying there a while and it is a discounted price then yes, otherwise don't get to far ahead, what if u end up wanting to move out?

Do not give anyone your money until it is owed. If the place burned down, how long do you think it would be before you got your six months money back?

The landlord gets someone else in, and forgets to tell them you prepaid.

This is borrowing trouble when there is no logical reason to do this.

No no no! If anything happened and you decided to move, you would not be able to get the money back from the landlord. I would never even pay more than one month at a time.

no, your landlord might loose the property and your rent would be gone

Usually when you first move in, it's 2 months rent including a small deposit. Why the 6 months?? Is that what the landlord is asking for?

why dont you just pay one a month, why 6 months ahead?
