david backbreaker | Should people be allowed to own two or three homes? |
Just because people have money, deaos this make it right for them to own two or more homes, when there are lots of young couples desperatly seeking a home, but have been frozen out of the market, becauseothers have a home in a village or town, which they only use for holidays, or weekend breakes, and have now interest in that community , nor in the people who represent that community! |

How is it "not right"?
Everyone chooses their own income level. Some of us choose to work harder then others, get more education, etc etc. I have no resentments for those that went to school longer then I did, or work harder to earn more money then I have. It is not like money is free and some of us receive more then someone else. Everyone decides for themselves what their income level will be.
I own multiple homes for my own private use. I would have to live in a Communist country in order to not have the right to buy property that I want. Fortunately I live in a free country though, and have the right to buy wherever I want within that country.
How do you know how much someone else does or does not care about a community? If your psychic abilities are that intense you should have no trouble earning money in the stock market!
I personally think that second home people add more to the community. We pay an equal amount of property tax as the full time residences. However, we use little of the tax resources. Our kids are not in the schools we are paying for. None of our family is using any of the welfare money we are contributing. Our use of the roads is minimal. We rarely use the local medical facilities. The parks we pay for are rarely used by us.
We contribute a huge amount to the tax base, but ask very little. We are not voting locally because of the voter laws in the US, not because we do not care who is elected to represent us. |

I do not want to live in a society where the government dictates what you can and can't buy. |

If we did not allow people to own more than one home, where would all the people that rent homes live? |
|

*New Mummy*

Yes of course. Don't be silly by owning more than one home your not freeing out young couples! Infact it helps young people as owners can rent to young couple giving them the option to buy
I know people who own 20 + houses that they rent and then give the option to buy |

Yes. People should be able to buy what they want with the money they earned. Stop whining and trying to take other peoples money. |

ok so lets change the scenario a bit - do you own 2 cars ? do you feel bad for those that can't afford a car at all or only one car when they have 2 people trying to get to work? People with more than one home - are just enjoying their hard work - why would you begrudge them that? Work hard and plan responsibly and you to can have a vacation home someday |

I have two holiday homes which I rent for Holiday lets, When I bought these houses they had not been sold before and had been on the market for seven years, at a cheap price and the locals didn't want them.....now I have had them for over ten years, and they have gone up about four times in value, the locals cant afford them.......but they could at one time and didn't buy them.....dont forget as well, it is the owner who decides what the selling price should be, not the purchaser, if they were so concerned about this problem, they would surely sell them at a reduced price to local couples, but do they, no,they want the money, so don't always blame the purchasers. |

I see what your saying, but you cant tell people how they can or cannot spend their money |

It's up to them!! There is a lot of hassle to being a landlord. If a squatter or tenant refuses to leave a home that is not your main residence there is very little the owner can do. Even if the person wrecks your place there is little chance of getting this person to stump up for it! So good luck to them!!
Also if you can't afford to buy a home you need to rent a place!! |

Having a second or third property does not mean a young person is frozen out of the market. It usually mens there are rented properties available for the young people to get started in. |

if you have the money to have 2 or 3 homes, than you should have sufficient funds to cover elevated taxes to pay for the luxury for 1 or 2 residences that you don't need. seconf or third homes tend to be bought in desirable holiday type locations - which put prices up so that local residents start struggling to afford homes in their own areas. that's what i have a problem with! make it more difficult and costly for people to have 2 or 3 homes that's what i say!
and as for not wanting to live in a society in which the government dictates what you can or can't have is ridiculous. just because you have cash shouldn't mean that you're entitled to everything! having a home is a fundamental that the majority of people can have afford. in this climate, many, many people can't. something is wrong, and it's not helped by people believing they are entitled to what they want when they want it! |

And how does this freeze anyone out? There are plenty of homes for sale. Check with any real estate agent. |

For the first 4 years we were married we rented a one-bedroomed flat while we saved desperately for a house deposit watching house prices grow faster than we could save. In the end when our lease was finished we had to go cap in hand to the Bank Manager for a loan to pay legal fees and moving expenses.
Now, we have a house - mortgage paid off - and we also have a small boat on which we could live if we wanted/needed to, but we only use it for weekend breaks and holidays, so it is, in effect, a floating cottage..
With your philosophy, which would I be forced to surrender? |

Yes they should be allowed to own 2 or more homes but then they should be taxed higher. they already have to pay capital gains tax on profit made on second homes but i think an increased council tax charge wouldn't hurt either. |

It is legal and therefore they are allowed , is it allowed to derogate someone by saying they have no interest in that community when if they have purchased there , they must have some interest . The answer lies in the assistance of young people in getting onto the housing ladder paticularly in villages / towns which have tourist / holiday homes , the education of ignorant and selfish people who buy in rural areas for pure pleasure as a weekend retreat / holiday home not realising they are affecting and destroying a way of life and are ruining the environment thay have intruded upon . We ruin the towns and cities let's ruin rural England . The communities need to fight back . |

The knowledge of economics is useful for businessmen to be successful. So economics is the study of our many wants or needs. But our wants or needs are limited by the resources or the amounts of money we have. So if one has money to buy three homes this is want economics is all about. |

No I don't believe they should. I do believe that the country should have a stock of council houses as in the past so that people can rent a home at a reasonable rent, whilst they possibly save for their own home. I don't believe that individuals should be able to line their pockets at the expense of people needing a home. Neither do I believe that people have a right to buy homes in villages and drive the children of people who have lived there a lifetime away. |

If people work hard and are successful, then they will be able to afford their own home
If they can't its not up to the government to step in and put restrictions on the rich
Survival of the fittest in my eyes |

How does someone owning a vacation home or rental property keep you from owning a home?
Keep this in mind. If they don't own rental, where would you live? You assume that prices would be lower if there was a one house to one buyer policy. It doesn't work that way.
