Its a hell of a strugle but its probably just about do-able if you live in an area where council tax and water rates aren't very high and if you budget VERY carefully. It isn't fun though, and not really sustainable for a long period of time, i.e. once you start needing new clothes and shoes.
Edit - Just seen the answer above mine but I'm presuming that £550 is for bills as well as food, etc. |

you need to sit and work out how much your rent and council tax, water, electricity, gas?,internet if need it?phone bill, tv licence would add up to.then work out your monthly shopping bill allowing for little extras in case your washer breaks and thing then find a total.this would give you how much would need to be going out each month.remember if you drive you need money for tax insurance petrol repairs too.and you will always need to make sure you have a little left for emergancy. |

You will not live comfortably on this, you will just get by. The rent is too expensive for your earnings, and you should have been told that, but its too late now. Careful budgeting and compromising on entertainment and shopping is the only way to make this work. |

yes - that should be okay - it will be tight but doable |

Add up how much you pay for bills, how much you spend on your monthly food shopping, and how much you need to socialising, plus £100 emergency use per month. This will tell you if you have budgeted enough |

Could be done, but life won't be much fun. Maybe someone could pick up a part-time job to add a few dollars to the budget |

Financial experts quote a 30-33% housing expense ratio for comfort. If you are willing to give up some things, you can adjust the ratio. It's the rest of the budget that determines what you can and cannot afford. If you want a BMW, wear designer clothes and eat at restaurants every night you are not being practical but if you have your head and heart under control, it's amazing what you can do. There are people living on less than you're talking about doing alright and others making far more who are filing bankruptcy. |

As long as you have no other outstanding things like loads to pay off, then yes. |

It depends if you want it to work. Everybody idea of "luxuries" are different. If a couple have just moved in together, then they will be happy being at home with each other. The first place we rented, was very very tight, we excepted every invite for a meal, shopped once a week and made it last. It was even harder when we got our first mortgage, he had to sell his prized car, but that was a sacrifice.
So for me yes it can easily be done, just be careful. |

Should be able to yes. I would judge the bills to come to £200 per month for the utilities and the council tax. My food budget for myself and my partner is normally just under £200per month. So as long as you don't have too many other expenses all should be fine. If you both have travel costs/telephones/broadband etc these will raise the monthly spend to close to the £550. |
