You have contact the lender and see if it's possible. Or else drag out all the original paperwork and read the fine print.

keithlrichardson
more than likely you will have to buy out the best mate and he will get half the value of the selling price of the house or refinance and the best mate would get half of the equity in the house. but by all means get a lawyer to go over the finance terms of the first mortage.

You must do it through a solicitor or you could end up sadder and wiser.

yes dont leave it in their name that causes so much problems you might not have to REfinance some states will transfer names over but you DO need an attorney call the western reserve hotline for attorneys and they can hook you up to some reasonable attorneys in your area you tell them what you need an attorney for and they go find the ones in your area that deal with your situation then give you their contact info or have the attorney call you back.

i wish you luck and i hope it doesnt cause problems between you. my husband and i have 2 houses our first house and this one we are living in. the first house we did a mortgage take over where his uncle "bought the house" but is just taking over the payments. after a lil over a year we had to pay the house off and we're doing a land contract financing by seller. where hes just paying us and we pay on the loan we got out to pay the house . im not saying you are going to be late on payments but if you are it goes on HIS credit. because the mortgage is in his name....

just look into it before JUMPING into it..

Every State is going to have a different criteia for this - In Michigan, the Buyer would have to quailfy to be put on the mortgage. Call the lender and ask them the question directly.

Ask your banker or local real estate agent to recommend an attorney. It will save you headaches in the future.
